Some of you might have noticed that connecting to the server triggers a virus warning. I'll leave it offline until I can figure out what's happening here.

Hi i was just wondering if by "offline" you mean that that i get the following error on my FF:

Service Unavailable

The requested service is unavailable.

Please try again later.

Yes, I've disabled apache ... so you should get this kind of error.

I don't have an exact ETA for the return of the site ... by the end of this week end I hope.

I had something like that happen to my webserver a while back. I ran rkhunter on my VPS and it found a worm I was able to eradicate fairly easily. Hopefully your server's issue is that easy to fix.

Lynis might also be a good thing to run: http://www.rootkit.nl/projects/lynis.html

Both ClamAV and rkhunter didn't find anything on the server ... but the corrupted files are still present : the virus modified index.php and index.html files to add a portion of Javascript, to infect more people (and to prevent that, I stopped apache) ...

We're in the process of removing these part of code, but it takes time

Yes it does ... look for the little RSS icon, next to news titles, news categories, articles, forum, ...
