Having the work directories on persistent storage might introduce unnecessary wear on the USB flash drive, which is typically of lower quality than an internal flash drive. Since folding is so time critical - especially Moonshot work units which time out rapidly - there is very limited utility in keeping the work unit and the checkpoints on persistent storage. The only exception would be if the computer is unstable or being restarted often for other reasons. If you're syncing anything in the "work" directory, I'd sync the client.db files but skip the "00", "01" etc folders unless you need them for debugging purposes.
