Re: Creating bootable, headless Linux FAH LiveUSB
Having the work directories on persistent storage might introduce unnecessary wear on the USB flash drive, which is typically of lower quality than an internal flash drive. Since folding is so time critical - especially Moonshot work units which time out rapidly - there is very limited utility in keeping the work unit and the checkpoints on persistent storage. The only exception would be if the computer is unstable or being restarted often for other reasons. If you're syncing anything in the "work" directory, I'd sync the client.db files but skip the "00", "01" etc folders unless you need them for debugging purposes.
Online: GTX 1660 Super + occasional CPU folding in the cold.
Offline: Radeon HD 7770, GTX 1050 Ti 4G OC, RX580

Not being able to PAUSE / REBOOT and then RESUME FOLDING would be a detriment, but if that client never runsgunnarre wrote:Having the work directories on persistent storage might introduce unnecessary wear on the USB flash drive....
WUs that take a long time, it might be acceptable. I"m not sure where the FAH UserID is stored but it really needs to be on persistent storage so that you don't inform the WS that you're starting a new client on a new computer.
