Just to clarify, if I have a Windows 10 System that is folding on the GPU (AMD/Nvidia), I can RDP to it from a different machine, open up applications and then disconnect the RPD session without the GPU folding crashing or killing the WU. Is that correct?

Also, what version of Windows 10 is it and what AMD/Nvidia drivers were used? If Microsoft has done tweaks in the the OS to remove that limitation, that would be fantastic!

This is what I see through RDC from my main PC. The remote machine has one monitor connected to the 5700 XT, which is seemingly running normally, above 90% (and quite hot), according to GPU-Z.

Thanks for that ajm! Glad to see Microsoft has made changes in the latest RDP version which allows GPU to fold... this opens up interesting possibilities for Donors running Windows systems :)

I have to say, though, that the remote machine is running Win 10 Pro 2004, build 19041.207. This version is not yet publicly available (well, anyone can install it by using the Microsoft insider Programs). It should roll out next month. The main PC is still running Win 10 Pro 1909. I have another folding rig with win 10 Pro 1909 installed, but it is presently running Linux. I'll try and make some tests with it tomorrow.

Sorry for the delay: that other Win 10 1909 PC (running then Linux) had endless WUs to crunch, so I finished them first.
It is now running Windows and I can confirm that the folding is not disturbed by a Remote Desktop Connection between two Win 10 1909 PC.
I captured the moves here (mp4, 18 mb): https://web.tresorit.com/l#73V1D49QibYCbXtxR1zv3A

Thanks for the video... I am glad that Microsoft made improvements to their RDP which allows GPU to fold without any issues!

Just wondering if the remote system is running headless or does it have a monitor plugged into it?

It does have a monitor, which it shares with another machine (DP/DVI). When I connect to it via RDC, the monitor stays connected to the remote controlled machine, and I can see the lock screen on its display.

Okay... whenever you have a bit of time and if it would be convenient for you, would you be able to start GPU folding, unplug the display cable from the GPU so it becomes a headless unit and then try again with RDP?

Reason is that about a decade ago, GPUs required a monitor to be plugged in for it to use the higher frequencies to allow folding. Nowadays, it just works fine without any dummy plugs. Just wondering how does Microsoft handle RDP when the system is headless. In my experience, it always resets the monitor resolution to a lower one and mess up my Windows. The box that I RDP to doesn't have a GPU so can't test it.

Darn, I just had switched the 1909 folding PC back to Linux... But I can try with the 2004 PC. It is on locked screen but with no RDC running.
I pull out the plug of the monitor (out of the graphics card) and the monitor switches to the other PC running Linux.
Back to my main PC (1909), launch RDC, connect... everything fine and happily folding:

I'll try it with the 1909 PC too, if you wish? But right now, there's a 10+ hours job running on Linux.

Nice... this is giving me dangerous ideas for GPU folding

Really appreciate your thoroughness and testing

Well, it is no nicely asked it would be a shame not to oblige. :D

Switched the 1909 folding rig back to Windows, unplugged the monitor, back to the main PC, remote connection: still everything fine!

I thank you for the tests as well, maybe i need to try all this too, because folding at me goes on, but when a new GPU WU is downloaded, it still stays on 0.0%. It starts folding only when i log in in any kind of way.
I'll need to reinstall Windows 10 (2004) anyway - it got a bit damaged already due to OC crashes :P
