I was thinking about the RF Interference issue as well, but more close to home. Doesn't this knock out your (and possibly your neighbor's) WiFi? I fired up a circa-2000 Microwave the other day and all our mobile devices's WiFi signal strength dropped to zero!

So did your hope of having any future generations of Foxbats

Open cases should be fine. There are plenty of commercial open ones as well as plastic, glass etc. versions that don't provide shielding. There was some debate about this issue on another forum and the consensus was that the individual components (motherboard, GPU, PSU etc. will all have their own fcc certification with regards to RF emission, regardless of chassis employed.

As well as open test benches, I've got an antec skeleton that provides next to no shielding and no problems observed (other than dust!). Oh, and my microwave oven also kills my 2.4 GHz wireless - I've got a 5 GHz network for that very reason!

Actually my WiFi is sitting on a cabinet right next to my open air server. It's signal is great. My neighbor across the street even uses it. The PC components block the RF interference. The cheap aluminum cases that most PC's are in are for airflow, mounting, and keeping things off the components than protecting from other things.

Ah, obviously quite a far cry from the days we'd run special machine code programs on our PDP-11 to play "The Star Spangled Banner" on a nearby AM radio!

Now using Nvidia 370.28 driver which allows me to overclock my GTX 1070 Founders Edition +200/+1500 memory. Doing average of 750k PPD while only using 130W. This compared to my Asus GTX 980 Ti doing 700k PPD using 210W.

Don't bother overclocking the memory : only little performance gain for a higher (unnecessary) risk of failure ...

... plus unnecessary heat which tends to reduce the overclockabity of the GPU processor.

I'm late to this thread but I have to ask, is power super cheap where you live? Or perhaps you are in a cold climate? Here in CA it gets up to $0.30/kWh in the summer and pulling 900 W from the wall plus the extra AC load due to the generated heat, well, I don't think it would be very possible here.

I have been running my open air rig since the first of the year and I haven't found dust to be any worse than in an enclosed case. Maybe less as I don't notice any significant dust build up yet. One thing for sure is that the GPUs run a lot cooler. Running 3 1080s, 1 960 and 1 750ti.

I guess I'm lucky as it's only $0.10 a kwh for me in Mississippi.

Well I'm not interested in arguing at all if that's your concern, but I would be interested to hear your thoughts. Are you upset at my comment or at CA electricity prices?

It was off topic to the hardware discussion, and there are several other threads where you could post or read that talk about conserving power, or offsetting power usage (replacing old conventional light bulbs with LEDs enough to match the increase used by folding).

He was not upset, just suggesting a better alternative.
