Re: Ubuntu 14.04 amd R9 gpu folding
Thank you for the report.
It's possible that Project: 13001 Run 477 Clone 0 Gen 16 is a bad WU. It's also possible that something is wrong with your configuration but I don't see it from the information given.
After 10.20 days, if you have not completed it, the WU will be reissued to somebody else who will attempt to complete it. If they succeed, it will indicate that it is NOT a Bad WU.
EDIT: Project: 13001 Run 477 Clone 0 Gen 16 has been successfully completed by someone else.
It happened to be completed in 1.03 days, so their GPU is significantly faster than yours. While theirs was a NVidia GPU, I personally have an R7-200 that folds fine.
What is the significance of the word "cloud" in the description of your machine?

Re: Ubuntu 14.04 amd R9 gpu folding
If you're referring to one of these then I understand why your cpu appears to be doing the folding since that APU is part of the cpu and with only a total of 12 cores I understand why it's taking so long. This APU is not designed for folding.targitaj wrote:Have on APU 7850 kaveri (45W mode) same problem.
Re: Ubuntu 14.04 amd R9 gpu folding
One of my machines contains an A8 (less powerful than your A10). Although technically the A8 contains a supported GPU, I've found that it's too slow to fold. I decided my best choice was to add a dedicated GPU and use my A8 for a CPU slot.bollix47 wrote:If you're referring to one of these then I understand why your cpu appears to be doing the folding since that APU is part of the cpu and with only a total of 12 cores I understand why it's taking so long. I have not tested the performance of my CPU slot, but since portions of the internal GPU uses hardware dedicated to GPU functions and other portions use hardware that is shared with the CPU, I suspect that by off-loading my GPU functions to dedicated hardware, not only my GPU folding was accelerated, folding on my CPU was also accelerated.

The log with kaveri i gave here
I think, i do something wrong. I have same problem on the different hosts wiht different hardware. The problem is - core17 fold on CPU.
Ok, step-by-step:
1. install ubuntu 14.04
2. download amd driver
3. install all nessesary debs for build fglrx*.deb. Manual, paragraph 3
4. install generated fxlrx*.deb
5. downlod folding@home debs
6. install folding@home debs
7. profit???
What i missed?
PS. 3d games work fine. I have HL/HL2 in steam.

Re: Ubuntu 14.04 amd R9 gpu folding
I used the instructions here to install Catalyst 14.9 on a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04. If I recall correctly I may have used the "Generate Distribution Specific Driver Package Option".
I did have to install a few pieces of software before the install script stopped complaining about missing dependencies:
sudo apt-get install lib32gcc1 dh-modaliases execstack debhelper dkms build-essential
I believe the above list to be complete but you can always check the install log if the driver creation does not complete.
After installing those the .run file completed successfully and after a reboot catalyst worked fine as did the 14.9 drivers and folding.

Thanx. I will try this way.

Re: Ubuntu 14.04 amd R9 gpu folding
Using a terminal:
For load:
aticonfig --odgc
For temperature:
aticonfig --odgt
FYI: my 7970 currently shows 95% load and 61C temp running a P13001
NB: X needs to be running to perform AMD Overdrive(TM) commands ... i.e. the commands need to be run on the physical computer and not via remote or you need to run a script on the remote computer that outputs to a file that you can then view

Re: Ubuntu 14.04 amd R9 gpu folding
So are you saying that you're running the FAH client in more than one virtual machine on the same hardware? That may not work, and in any case is strongly discouraged. If you have a single GPU, a single client will use all of its resources and starting a second client that has to share those resources will only slow down both copies. The net result is that it REDUCES FAH's throughput. A single FAH client is designed to use all unused resources of a real machine, and anything that reduces its access to those resources has a negative effect, including another client and including the virtualization process, itself.targitaj wrote:The project tarh-cloud is not completed. Re: Ubuntu 14.04 amd R9 gpu folding
I have a radeon R7 260x and for now I fold only with the cpu (FX-8120) on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
if I install the latest drivers AMD I could also fold with my gpu?
V7 will automatically install the downloader FAHcore_17 and a WU?

290X Linux issue
Hi everyone! I am new to F@H and got stuck with a probable dealbreaker for me:
I tried setting up F@H but got extremely low PPD on my GPU. ~ 1600
GPU usage stays at 0%. However my CPU usage is high (700% on my 8 core) despite of having stopped my cpu slot.
I tried on Windows and got around 180k. However Windows is not an option for me.
I am using:
F@H v 7.4.4
Ubuntu 14.04
Catalyst 14.9
AMD APP SDK 2.9-1
