I monitor 4 Ubuntu machines and 6 Windows machines with HFM. I don't see any difference in how any of the logs look in the viewer. They all look fine. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what your seeing. Can you post a screenshot?

I think he is referring to when he right clicks on a client and selects "view cached log file" which spawns an external viewer, notepad by default, to view the log file. What you can do, is go into the preferences and change the external viewer, located under the options tab, to wordpad instead of notepad.

Yay! Fixed my problem this morning. It seems to have nothing to do with UNIX line breaks. HFM message window (verbose) contained this error message:
[3/5/2010-8:28:34 AM] X HFM.Instances.ClientInstance.Retrieve (i7 Linux-SMP) Threw Exception: Could not find a Unit Start Index.
I deleted the FAHLog.txt file and restarted the -bigadv client, and now HFM parses it just fine. I had accidentally started FAH twice early on and think the overlapping log messages tripped HFM up. Culprit pasted below, it's about 80% of the way down, right after "Press any key to exit":

Does HFM.net calculate bonuses differently than the SMP2 calculator (
http://www.linuxforge.net/bonuscalc2.php)?
I just upgraded my CPU. Folding a Project 6014 with a frame time of 5:31 (hfm calculates average from last 3 frames).
HFM.net current PPD: 5607
SMP2 calculator: 7180
Does HFM.net recognize when I downloaded the unit and calculate bonus based on that (rather than just TPF)? That's the only reason I can think of why they'd be so different...I was initially folding the unit with an older slower CPU and there was a bit of downtime while I replaced it.

HFM uses the actual download time and then estimates when you'll finish based on the current rate over the [last three frames, or etc.] Add the ETA that it reports to the download time and that's a pretty reasonable estimate even if your machine has not folded continuously since the WU was downloaded.
The calculator has to estimate both the predicted upload time, but also the download time based on your current rate of progress, and if you shut off your machine for a while after downloading that WU, it's estimated download time is going to be too optimistic. [It's telling you what you might have gotten if you hadn't shut down FAH.]

Wow Again!!! (see my last release post) It's been a few since I've made an HFM update but I think it is well worth the wait. With the advent of the SMP2 client and readily available Bonus/KFactor work, HFM v0.4.8 hit an all time high in downloads for single version. Clock him in at over 2600 downloads!!! ...and I was all giddy about the 500 that v0.4.7 reeled in.
Check the HFM Google Code page for downloads and details on the changes.

have just looked a HFM and it showing in the status that one of my smp 6.29 clients is 'runningAsync' the ppd for the client has dropped from about 8k to just over 1k? it is folding % every 05min 24secs, an a3 p6025(R1, C14, G31). to me it looks like it not getting the bonus.
also on the same pc the same Async is showing on my GPU client folding just over 01min per % P6606 (R1, C761, G4)
my other rig is folding at 4mins a % a a3 P6021(R0, C123 G58). the status is showing as running and the ppd is at 9k so this one is ok.
what is this Async and how come my ppd for the the smp has dropped. i only completed my first 10 WU's this morning so i dont want to be loosing more point.

Are the clocks on all your machines reading the same time? We just had a daylight savings adjustment in the U.S. so thought that might trip old OS's.

It has been brought to my attention that Stanford has rules against accessing their cgi-bin based pages and HFM violates those rules by accessing the Project Information pages in a scripted manner. Please note, HFM only attempts to access these pages when users enable the Web Generation option on the Preferences -> Scheduled Tasks Tab. Continued use of the Web Generation feature in ANY prior version of HFM MAY result in your IP being blacklisted by Stanford. Please update to avoid any undue action against your IP and undue load on Stanford's servers. I apologize to anyone who may have been blacklisted. I have asked the Pande Group if they would remove any user's IP from the blacklist if they come forth citing this issue with HFM. I assure you my intentions are for the betterment of the FAH community and in no way was I intentionally trying to violate the rules - I was simply ignorant of them.
If it was just me who ended up getting his IP banned, then I'd be ok with that... but that's not the case. I put you, my users, in a bad position - so again, I apologize if you were effected and I hope you will continue to use and support HFM.
Check the HFM Google Code page for downloads and details on the changes.

Whew! Been a couple of months since I last came around huh? I'm pleased to annouce the availability of HFM v0.5.0 - which includes the long awaited "auto-update" feature. Just a couple (five) words about this.
You have the option to turn on or off the check for updates on start-up. The ONLY time HFM will auto-check for updates is on start-up. However, there is also a manual check in the Help Menu that will provide you more verbose feedback than the auto-check will.
What does this mean? It means I'll be able to deliever updates and fixes more quickly and easily. It means I will be in a thread near you even less often than I already am now. I have about 9 threads where I maintain/update this same information when I release an update. It's time consuming and I can easily spend several hours getting all my threads updated. So, for smaller, less significant updates my plan is to forego the usual thread updates since running HFM can now tell you when an update is available. I'm going to look into scheduling update checks or another means of ongoing notification since, if you're like me, you don't shutdown HFM that often.
When receiving an update notification you can download either the MSI or Zip distribution. If you're on Windows and download the MSI it will install once you exit HFM. No change to the Zip distribution, you're on your own.
Check the HFM Google Code page for downloads and details on the changes. As always, if you need to find me quickly, see below. I usually answer pretty quickly.

Hi sgb... it depends on the OS but I assume you are trying to monitor a Linux VM (what is FAH image?) from your Windows machine.
Here is my guide to setting up Samba on Ubuntu, other distros will be similar:
