Cannot upload

Post by ukgraham »

Hi there I have been unable to upload completed work units for three days now. I have checked the servers and they appear OK but I cannot connect to them to upload even though I can still get work units and complete them.

FAH was unable to connect with four different servers. The chance that all four were down when you tried is really pretty unlikely. It's more likely a local issue.
Can you open the following in your browser?
http://171.64.65.65:8080
http://171.67.108.25:8080
http://169.230.26.30:8080
http://171.65.103.100:8080
http://171.64.65.65
http://171.67.108.25
http://169.230.26.30
http://171.65.103.100

Assuming your browser can reach some or all of those addresses and FAH still cannot, it's a problem with your firewall (or perhaps the anti-spyware feature of your anti-virus software). The FAH client needs permission to connect to the network. I can't tell you the specific method to grant an exception for FAH with whatever security software you have but you should be able to figure it out from the help files associated with that security software.

Many thanks for the fast response, the problem was as you thought at my end. I use AVG (Full version) and it was caused by the Webshield portion of it. I disabled active shield and restarted F@H and lo it connected almost immediately. So if anyone else has the same problem disabling webshield for the duration of the upload will cure their problem.

That is not a permanent solution. You need to figure out how to tell webshield that you want the FAH program to connect to the web by granting a permanent exception.

Also note that AVG has caused problems by false reporting that some of the working files that FAH uses contain a virus. (Search for the keywords "false positive"). Grant a permanent exception to the antivirus checking for the "work" directory.
