I've been hung up on this particular WU for a couple of days, getting nothing but frequent shutdowns.

Someone else was able to complete it successfully two days ago.

Any suggestions on what to do -- delete the unit and get another one? My system appears to be functioning properly in other regards

Yes, I'd go for deleting it. You may need to delete the work directory and the queue.dat file if it gets reassigned to you again.
