is there a PPD program for the command line? Samba?
I installed the Ubuntu 8.04.1 server as I found a post with a setup guide for running smp and two gpu clients. Now I'd like to be able to figure out my PPD, but FahMon and FahSpy were for a GUI.
Is there an equivalent for the command line?

I'd configure samba, takes two minutes on Ubuntu, and monitor with FahMon (or FahSpy) from a boxen with my desktop OS on it.

you wouldn't happen to know of a good non-GUI samba install guide. I'm finding it very overwhelming to setup personally. Maybe I just found the wrong guide?

Re: is there a PPD program for the command line?
Yeah, that's the one I'm using now. The first one I tried was for command line only and this one focuses on the graphical stuff a lot.
maybe if I tell you why I want it. I cannot find a command line for PPD monitoring, so I was advised to setup a server and monitor it from my windows machine with samba and then I'd be able to monitor it from fahmon or fahspy in windows through the samba interface.
I think maybe I'm having issues with my username or my shared folder. I use the same username on both computers and think it may be conflicting. I know I'm not setting up my shared folder properly and can't seem to get it to mount properly. so, one or both issues are giving me a pain right now.
Thanks for the help

No the usernames have to be the same on both computers to be able to access the share properly.
What, if any, errors are you getting?
P.S. This might be better in one of the Linux forums for better exposure. Although, there is not a client unspecific Linux forum.
I will see if I can get my bud to swing by and help you out.

Re: is there a PPD program for the command line? Samba?
Thanks for the big effort MstrBlstr, but I finally got it. I was rushing through the Ubuntu Samba setup and was entering some client settings. The old smb.conf file was whacky from the first setup help file I found and just deleted it and copied back the original smb.conf file and it was working in two minutes like tobit said originally - lol
Thanks again to everyone who helped.

ps. fahmon finds the network drive I created, but fahspy doesn't for some reason. I even restarted fahspy with no help.

I don't use ubuntu, so there may be some subtle difference
You want to have samba running on your ubuntu box. You will need to install it (if it's not already). Then you have to set up share permissions.
Try these links

Re: is there a PPD program for the command line? Samba?
Looks like you posted about the same time as me parkut. - lol but thanks for the extra info.
I managed to get samba on my Ubuntu desktop version in my vmware window. I may reinstall ubuntu desktop version on my i7 instead of the server version to get my web browser and gui back.
anyway, I'm folding at almost 25k ppd now! I have a 9800GX2 on the way and it should bump it another 10k or so hopefully.
I just hope they can get the ATI drivers working properly along with getting my other gpu to fold on my 4870X2. I just checked and no new catalyst drivers yet.
again, thanks so much for the help.

Re: is there a PPD program for the command line? Samba?
woot, I got the new 4870GX2 installed and folding. I now have over 35k ppd. I reinstalled Ubuntu and have the desktop version up and running. Samba was a snap and I have FahMon on my Vista gaming rig monitoring all my folding. I do get a lot of hung messages when it refreshes the screen. I just masnually refresh (F5) each hng one and it usually recovers nicely. I see no error messages in Ubuntu though. Not sure why it says hung all the time. Must be a networking issue.
anyway, thanks again for all the help.

Re: is there a PPD program for the command line? Samba?
Just for the record, there is a command line utility to display your PPD and other interesting bits of info on the running FAH client:rmjohnson144 wrote:Is there an equivalent for the command line?
Dick Howells qd: the queue.dat dumper, now maintained in qd-tools.
If you install your FAH clients on Linux or OSX using finstall (HOWTO) you have the option to install qd and fpd along with the FAH client.
You can then monitor the status, including PPD, using /etc/init.d/folding status dirs:
Code: Select all
/etc/init.d/folding status dirs
['folding' ver. 5.7]
Status of running FAH client(s) on 2 processor(s):
