p3408 takes long

Is it normal for p3408 WU's to take more then 4 days straight on a 3 GHz Xeon, or am I doing something wrong? I'm used to WUs that finish in about 24h on these computers, give or take a few hours.
I had a crash a few days ago that stopped most my clients, so it may be my fault.

This is normal behavior. p3408 is a little larger than some work units, so it takes longer to fold, but is also worth more points (388). Short work units are smaller, but also worth less points. Comparing a 1 day WU to a 4 day WU is not a good comparison unless we also know how many points each WU is worth.

If you crashed make sure it's not working at a snails pace - happens after a crash if you don't have the forceasm flag. Look in the log and make sure you have a SSE message. Otherwise it's a "working with standard loops" message which means it's working really slowly, but it can be fixed by simply closing down and re-booting.

Thanks for the reply, but luckily I already found these hints. Stopping the client in a propper way and starting it, seems to solve the issue.

I know, but I used to be so 'lucky' for a while to recieve WU's of ~200 pt's that finished in little over 24h's.
And 388/4 days is significantly less than 200/1 day. Assuming that the time it takes to finish the WU is directly correlated to the number of points, I thought something didn't add up.

So I wonder if anything is wrong with my computers. Maybe it's the difference between the FAH reference computer and my folding equipment. Maybe it's SSE vs. SSE2, or something like that.

p3408 is a normal WU. No BigWU bonus, and no SSE2 bonus. Btw it gets the benchmark points on my P4-m 1.4 GHz (56 PPD ... which is half of 110 PPD that a P4 2.8 GHz would achieve).

As I said, this is normal behavior. Different types of work units may have a bonus, and some do not, depending on size, use of SSE2 or not, etc.. If you'd like more info on this, the Points FAQ and Configuration FAQ on the project's web site is helpful.
