Rehab programs for folding@home addicts?

Lost 2 machines this week, half my stable- (to needy friends, family- didn't break) and I'm jonesin' bad.
Got out the box o' old things and stuff and am pokin' around...

Ah,....don't give up on the "rescue boxes" alancabler! Much like any adoption papers, any rescued computers I've given away have the caveat that they must be used to fold, too. Regular checkups are free to encourage such actions.

And just because I have double the electric bill and cringe when I see someone turn off a computer THAT doesn't make me addict...uh...nevermind.

Personally I wouldn't pay for such things ... it's definitively not good to try to win money on the project

And it's not as fun as building our own machine

People earn money even from selling gameitems like gold etc for real money. Even a project like this, as long as there is any kind of competition(as we have), will unfortunatly be victim for this kind of "criminal" behaviour. It has become one of the greatest problems of modern MMO games.

If people can earn money by building folding machines and selling to PPD addicts then Im surprised it hasnt grown more yet.

Hello, Im an adult and anonymous folding@home addict , erm.

Ive bought four second-hand 8800GT and GTS cards the last 10 days, for the purpose of folding. And if that isnt bad enough... tonight I bought an additional GTX 280... for what purpose? Folding ofc.

Am I the only one feeling a little bit crazy around this folding deal? Im also gonna upgrade 2-3 of my CPU to 45nm Quad Cores for the purpose of hmm folding@home.

I should be on your paylist Dr. Pande A personally signed and framed photograph will do hehe.

BTW:
Im gonna consider buying an HD4870x2(R700) for gaming purposes in late september... if i can afford it

I think some people will get a bit of a shock when the next few electricity bills come in after popping in numerous GPU's for Folding

.... though, as one Folding junkie to another, this is only a minor inconvenience compared to the extra heat that needs shifting

I'm not really seeing much in the way of extra power cost.

I run two 3870 cards on my AMD 9850.

A couple hundred watts here and there doesn't seem to make much difference, my power bill runs around $120 a month, summer or winter.

Turn off a few 100 watt lights, keep the Fridge door closed(kids stand in front debating for 10 minutes which soda they want), and it all evens out.

IN contrast, my natural gas bill ran $400 $500 per month in dec. jan. and Feb.

I think this is the reason that 80+ power supplies have not really taken off. I don't see DELL or HP trying to convince their customers to pay more for their computer so they can save $1 a month on electricity.

Power is really just too cheap.

Anyway, looking forward to cooler weather, so everyone can heat their homes with their folding monsters!

When my wife decided she "needed" a new computer, I built her a quad-core instead of a dual-core so I could Fold more on it. But I'm not an addict... Unh unh!

Wow. Ingenious. I can't find any such auctions but it's pretty neat idea.
I wonder what a point on my rig is worth in terms of power costs. Will have to do some maths when my Kill-A-Watt arrives in a couple of days.

Oh, and I must be crazy - I just ordered a 3rd 9800GX2 for my folding rig... And keeping 2 cool turned out to be difficult enough as it is...
