Debian 12 = Gpu Nvidia RTX 2060 will work on fresh install after reboot, it goes to state unsported

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though NVidia has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

Debian 12 = Gpu Nvidia RTX 2060 will work on fresh install after reboot, it goes to state unsported

Post by Davidvantongerloo »

After a fresh installation of Debian 12, my NVIDIA RTX 2060 GPU initially works as expected. However, upon reboot, the system reports an "unsupported state," and the GPU becomes non-functional. The only way to get it working again is by reinstalling Debian, but the issue reoccurs after each reboot.

Looks like the ocl-icd-opencl-dev package needs to be installed for the OpenCL libary. For CUDA support, the NVIDIA drivers would need to be installed. CUDA is more efficient than OpenCL.

Hopefully your electricity costs are low. A card this old isn't that efficient compared to modern one. A 2060 would maybe do under 2M points per day (3M PPD at best) at up to 160W. A 4060 Ti can do 6-7M PPD at 110-150W.
