PSA for RX5000 series users: Please, update your Win drivers

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though AMD has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

PSA for RX5000 series users: Please, update your Win drivers

Post by muziqaz »

Everyone who is folding on their RX5000 series GPUs, please update to 24.6.1 driver, which just came out. It updated OpenCL version, which in turn fixes few performance bugs on certain projects. These projects were running 1/3 of normal performance,in testing, so they were always disabled for users of rx5000 series. Any upcoming projects which would have suffered from this performance degradation, now will be enabled when going to full fah. So if you notice that your RX5700xt is receiving let's say 300k PPD instead of usual 1-1.2m PPD, driver update to the latest version will solve the performance.
New driver does not add any additional performance.

Oh, and Linux users, this is a bit more complicated, you are basically looking for OpenCL driver 3603.0 or 3617.0. "clinfo" usually tells you which driver version you are running. Some of my distros are already on 3600+ OCL driver.

HIP Fahcore update:
still in the works and is being worked on, though no ETA is known (we are trying not to push devs too hard :D).
