Repeated fails configuring new client with Passkey

Post by ScaramangaX »

Hello Folders,

I have a new server and in setting up the client I’m not able to login after repeated attempts & reboots using my passkey. I’ve even gone through the passkey retrieval process, no workie. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance!

What version of fah? What OS?
Are you attempting remote access via FAHControl ?

Passkey has nothing to do with v7 password, which must be set in client.xml or via FAHControl on the same machine as the client is running.

Hello, thanks for your replies.

I'm running Unbuntu 24.04 LTS, and version 8,3,17 of the client. I wasn't aware that there was a fah control for 8.3?

I'm not trying to remote into this machine but just trying to enter my Passkey into the client which is admitedly pretty confusing. There's a field in the client setup page that looks to be for the passkey, but I've rechecked my information several times and the system comes back with 'account not found' or something very similar. I thought we had to enter our passkey to get credit for our work?

Thanks,

You are correct that there is no FAHControl for v8. There is only Web Control.

The passkey is only needed to get the quick return bonus.

To control a remote in web control, the remote client needs to have joined an account. You can put the account-token in the remote’s config.xml. You can also just add the passkey in config.xml. Along with user, team.

On Linux, the service client config is
/etc/fah-client/config.xml
It is owned by user “fah-client”, so you need sudo to edit it.

The client setup page *is* Web Control.

You need to use it on the same machine if you don’t want to use an account.
