New Omicron varient

Post by Demmers »

Given the level of mutations that appear in the new Covid Omicron varient, and therefore the amount of "unknown answers", i'm interested to know if the scientific community believe it could be helpful for it to have its own folding projects? Does the folding@home project help in answering these sort of problems, or are mutations not really relevant to this kind of work?

FAH already discovered over 50 druggable sites in the virus (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41557-021-00707-0), of which at least one is present in multiple strains of the coronavirus family (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/a ... 952100254X).

They're also helping with the COVID Moonshot, which is an antiviral. It doesn't target the spike protein but I have no idea if it's efficacy is reduced with this new variant.

Only the researchers can answer if there will be new projects to analyze this mutation.

And if you look at the most recent progress report, I think the answer is that they are very probably furiously considering that subject now.

They will undoubtedly know more soon, and do what should be done.
