I would really like to see the pillarene structure.

I have not run 18436 so I can only guess. (There might be something unique about 18436)
How many % of the current WU have you completed? (The viewer accesses the information YOU have completed...perhaps in 5% or 10% segments.)

Re: Why does WU=18436 not show in FAHviewer?
The % completed doesn't seem to be a deciding factor, as the FAHviewer has never loaded the molecule enough to view it. Pillarenes are relatively small tubular molecules with negatively-charged receptor sites for smaller positively-charged molecules inside. As a former structural chemist, I was interested in how these molecules look, and was disappointed when nothing appears in the viewer, when enormous proteins seem to be shown with ease.

FAHViewer is the least priority component in FAH, so it has some bugs ... and yes sometimes, it can't display some WUs ...

Thanks for your reply. To help the developers I will post a screenshot of what happens with WU=18436 the next time it gets selected.toTOW wrote:FAHViewer is the least priority component in FAH, so it has some bugs ... and yes sometimes, it can't display some WUs ...

I guess it stays in Loading state and displays the Demo protein ...

Re: Why does WU=18436 not show in FAHviewer?
TBH I can't remember the last time any work unit displayed on the viewer for me. It was so infrequent that I just quit even clicking the button.
I used to fold almost all GPU, but lately more CPU. The next time I have a CPU unit running I'll give it a try. It's not displaying anything at all on the current GPU WU (18210).
Not that it really matters to me. I just assumed it's been broken for a while, but in hindsight I haven't tried it in a while.

Fold them if you get them!

Yes, that's the situation I was expecting ...hollandnumerics wrote:Not quite:

I guess I'm mixing with previous versions where it would only display Demo protein after a few seconds ...
BobWilliams757> at least on Windows, latest versions of the client/viewer fixed many issues. It should be displaying something now as long as you don't have some security tools blocking communications on loopback interface between FAHClient and FAHViewer ...

I've just found that the pillarene WU=18435 also fails to show in Windows FAHviewer!

Re: Why does WU=18436 not show in FAHviewer?
One possibility is that the researcher setting up the projects configured something incorrectly and processing the WUs is not creating the image data files, or they are not formatted correctly. Or the files are not being created in the correct location, I recall that was the problem with some projects a couple years ago.
The folding core should be creating periodic ViewerFrame(n).json files in the work directory for the WU. I don't recall the exact location they should be, and only process CPU projects on my macOS systems. I do know the viewer works most of the time on the GROMACS based CPU projects, have not run my system on Linux in a long while to see what the GPU processing is like.

Re: Why does WU=18436 not show in FAHviewer?
WU=18435 is still regularly creating viewerFrame*.json files (currently 0 to 10), but they all contain just the following:
As a result I don't think FAHviewer is at fault in this case, because it has nothing the display!!
Code: Select all

Re: Why does WU=18436 not show in FAHviewer?
Closing this thread, and moving the discussion to the WU-specific forum https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=37644, as the problem now appears not to be related to FAHViewer.
