Windows 11 is coming soon.

This has the potential to increase the output of Folding @ Home. I hope everyone will upgrade to the new O/S. The more we can increase output, the
faster the Folding problem will be solved and we can move on to the next major problem in Bioscience.

Reality is what you stumble over when you walk around with your eyes closed.
Re: Windows 11 is coming soon.
How soon is "soon" though. Reviews I have seen are of a buggy, incomplete leaked version. I don't expect it for well over a year, if there are no beta reviews yet.

This is MS. Given their prior history, buggy and incomplete could mean it will be released in a few months when their marketing dept. determines it is time.debs3759 wrote:Reviews I have seen are of a buggy, incomplete leaked version.

LOL, given their past record, it's probably going to be best to skip 11 and wait for 12 anywayJoe_H wrote:This is MS. As long as I can still use my unused 7 keys to register 10 (or 11) I'm not bothered when it's released.
Re: Windows 11 is coming soon.
Microsoft's OS code has been pretty good in the last 20 years, compared to the spaghetti they made prior to Windows 2000 - apart from a few dead ends, so Windows 11 might indeed be an improvement on efficiency.

Re: Windows 11 is coming soon.
Shadows of the tomb raider displays the leaked W11 as a W10 build. Apart from that, gaming performance seems to be 2-3% better, but that could be due to the lack of telemetry and other such features on the leaked build.

Since it seems to be very easy to install Windows 11 after all, has anyone tried it yet? Does F@h work in W11?

Re: Windows 11 is coming soon.
I have a copy, and hope to set up a an 8 core Bulldozer based PC with an older GPU within the next week. If everything works as expected, I'll let you know if it works and how good it is (I'll set up W10 first, so I can compare output of similar projects between the two)iero wrote:Since it seems to be very easy to install Windows 11 after all, has anyone tried it yet? Looking forward to your findings. Just let each instance run for 2 to 3 days at minimum, you gotta get them different WUsdebs3759 wrote: I have a copy, and hope to set up a an 8 core Bulldozer based PC with an older GPU within the next week. Yes, of course. I'll post asap, probably not before late next week.iero wrote:Looking forward to your findings. Re: Windows 11 is coming soon.
I installed W11 on my second machine. Its only a Ryzen 3 2200g with Vega 8 graphics, but my first synthetic benchmarks show no difference in performance[Cinebench and Superposition]. The rumours seem to be wrong, who would have guessed. The whole experience though is definitely worse. Can't even sign in locally on the copy that I acquired. And then i made the mistake to set my birth date as 1/1/2020 and i was swiftly prompted to have an adult tie his email to my account in order to have parental control... Jesus, I mean everything is overcomplicated for no reason. No start menu, round edges everywhere, and a general Facebook doodly fkinda feeling to the UI.
In all honesty I don't think that you'll see any changes in PPD. But at least the graphics drivers work like a charm.
