Dropping old work units that are past expiration date

Hello, so I was wondering if there was a way to drop units that have been paused for a long time, so that I can get actual relevent units. It feels like such a waste to have to fully complete old units like this.

The simplest way is to just unpause the client. If the WU has passed its expiration time, the client will dump the WU then and try to download a new one.

If you're hitting expiration you're already well past the timeout which triggers a re-assignment of the unit to another folder/donor.

From what I understand the next unit cannot be sent out until the results have been returned from the previous. Re-assigning the unit ensures it is completed somewhere so science can continue.

When a WU is completed, other copies may have been issued which really don't need to be completed, but FAH has no way to notify the FAHClient on which that duplicate has been enqueue nor does the server have the capability to inform FAHClient of those facts.

Why was your copy paused so long? As @ aetch suggests, letting it finish is the easiest approach. FAHClient is designed to operate without being monitored by a PBAK
