Folding@home Disconnected, Even After Reinstallation
Other people seem to have this problem as well:
When I go to the Folding@Home website, I get a message reading "Folding@home Disconnected" The Folding@home software on your computer has most likely stopped."
So...how do I restart it? I can't see any way to do so.

Welcome to the F@H Forum Kerguelen Emperor,
Can you please post the log file? Ensure you include the first 100 lines which will inform us of what the system configuration is and what the client settings are. If you require guidance, please view this topic: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=26036
Generally speaking (without the log file), either restarting the system (if you have configured F@H to start up on boot) or manually using the shortcut to open the application would work

@PantherX: Frankly, this is beginning to look like more trouble than it's worth for me; I hope that doesn't prove to be the case.
On the other hand, manually opening the application would be fine by me...but where is it??? All I see on my desktop is the link to the website, which is no help.
FWIW, this forum is itself more confusing than it needs to be; I can't tell whether I've started a thread or merely joined one.
Well, I always shut my computer down when I stop using it, so I should think that means "restarting the system" has been tried several times to no avail.Generally speaking (without the log file), either restarting the system (if you have configured F@H to start up on boot) or manually using the shortcut to open the application would work

Re: Folding@home Disconnected, Even After Reinstallation
Hopefully, we can resolve your issue soon and you will be folding in no time Can you please describe your system as best as you can?
Please note that shutdown and restart behave differently on Windows 10 (https://www.howtogeek.com/349114/shutti ... g-it-does/) thus, the suggestion to restart to see if that changes anything.
In the notification tray (bottom right corner) on the taskbar, you might see a "molecule" icon which is for F@H. That should help you open up Advanced Control (AKA FAHControl).
BTW, to make it easy, I have split your posts from the previous thread and moved it to the New Donors section where you can ask any and all questions without worrying about the "right" place to ask questions

Okay, found that. It seems like it's...struggling...to connect. In the notification tray (bottom right corner) on the taskbar, you might see a "molecule" icon which is for F@H. That should help you open up Advanced Control (AKA FAHControl).
Sorry for the split post.

Re: Folding@home Disconnected, Even After Reinstallation
Okay, so you're using Windows 7. I assume that it is fully patched (before it went into unsupported mode). What kind of CPU and GPU do you have?
Since you can see the icon in the notification tray, could you navigate to the folder in %AppData% (see link in the second post) and post the log.txt file here for you to see what's happening?

Re: Folding@home Disconnected, Even After Reinstallation
Where would I find that information? What kind of CPU and GPU do you have?
I'm sorry, this is all a little overwhelming; where is "AppData"?Since you can see the icon in the notification tray, could you navigate to the folder in %AppData% (see link in the second post) and post the log.txt file here for you to see what's happening?
Thank you for being patient.
Re: Folding@home Disconnected, Even After Reinstallation
You have many ways to find these informations. The simplest should be to search for "system information":
There are others ways described there: https://pureinfotech.com/how-to-view-sy ... nd-prompt/
AppData is a hidden folder in your user folder, that is: C:\Users\YOU\AppData
You'll find instructions for Win 7 here: https://www.solveyourtech.com/how-to-fi ... windows-7/

Open Windows Explorer.
Click Organize in the blue bar at the top of the window, then click Folder and search options.
Click the View tab
Check the box to the left of Show hidden files, folders and drives, click Apply, then click OK.
Click the C Drive option in the left column of Windows Explorer.
Double-click the Users folder.
Double-click the user whose AppData folder you want to find.
Double-click the AppData folder.
Re: Folding@home Disconnected, Even After Reinstallation
You can open WIndows file explorer and type %APPDATA%. (with the % signs) When information is enclosed by percent signs it is recognized as an environment variable. In my system, that's the same as typing "C:\Users\bruce\AppData\Roaming" (without the " marks.) The environment variable also works in the "dos box"

Re: Folding@home Disconnected, Even After Reinstallation
Okay, I see it (viewtopic.php?f=24&t=26036), but please help me out a bit further here, I'm overwhelmed (visual processing problems or something); can you please point out just where on there I should look for what you're asking for?
Re: Folding@home Disconnected, Even After Reinstallation
It's described here: viewtopic.php?p=327412&f=24#p327412
There are three possible methods and a few things to know beforehand:
6 - How To Post A Log File (Windows)
There are few methods to locate the log file for the F@H Client that you can use to locate, copy and paste your log to this Forum. However, please note that:
We generally don't need the progress messages between 2% and 99% so they can be removed
A single post has a limit of 60,000 characters so if you encounter this limit, you can remove repetitive messages or split your log file across multiple posts
The default setting of verbosity (3) should be used, any higher will print additional data that is unnecessary which makes it very difficult to troubleshoot in the majority of cases
Method 1 (Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7)
