Hardware configuration: Custom build: Win 7 Pro/64 on Asus P7P55D Deluxe 2.8GHz Intel Core i7 860, 4~8 cores, 8GB memory. Graphics: ATI FirePro V4800 (FireGL V).

Ok, which is it: ":::" or ":0:0:" ?

My elderly but still-supported (by AMD) FirePro V4800 graphics card has the latest drivers (drivers 2015, encompassing application package 2020).

The local gpus.txt file lists the V4800 as:

0x1002:0x68c9:0:0:RV830 [FirePro V3800 (FireGL V)],

which agrees with "fahclient --lspci" except for an extra value in the middle:

But the online version of gpus.txt at https://apps.foldingathome.org/GPUs.txt lists the V4800 as follows:

0x1002:0x68c8:::Redwood [FirePro V4800 (FireGL V)]

whose missing values supposedly signal a deprecated device.

But I wonder about the deprecation, given gpu_z's finding that the card supports OpenCL 1.2:

The current requirement is the card needs to support both OpenCL 1.2 or better and Double Precision (FP64) calculations. Your Forepro V4800 supports the first, but not the second - https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/f ... v4800.c572.

The third and fourth fields filled with either a zero or left empty in the GPUs.txt entry indicate that the device is unsupported. The values in the output of lspci are just bus locations, and are not copied into GPUs.txt.

Welcome to Folding@Home!

It is a ten year old design. (think dog years) It is a great many generations old (Terascale 2, Terascale 3, GCN1.0 to 5.0, and now Navi)

Core_22( the current latest science for GPUs) requires Double Precision floating point math (FP64) which your GPU lacks. Earlier Cores for GPUs did not, but the demands of science march on.

If you need to fit a GPU in a single slot, a GT 1030 is as well as you can do, but if you have dual slots you could buy a GTX 1650 that would not use more electrical power than the FirePro V4800. (I am not familiar with AMD)
