GPU Asus 1070 8gb oc not getting wu

Post by Erock »

I almost hit 1 Million points with my cpu in my desktop pc and my notebook but I also want to use my GPU in my desktop pc. I have got an ASUS 1070 8GB OC Dual Series. In the advanced control it is detected but I don't get any WU and I am waiting for 2 weeks and yes, I restarted my computer a couple of times :) .

Thank you for your help!

Welcome to the F@H Forum Erock,

Please note that you will have to install the latest version of Nvidia Drivers from this site (https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us#), not rely on Microsoft's updates which don't include the OpenCL drivers.

This is what your configuration looks like (OpenCL is missing):
23:42:13: GPUs: 1
23:42:13: GPU 0: Bus:1 Slot:0 Func:0 NVIDIA:7 GP104 [GeForce GTX 1070] 6463
23:42:13:CUDA Device 0: Platform:0 Device:0 Bus:1 Slot:0 Compute:6.1 Driver:11.0
23:42:13: OpenCL: Not detected: clGetDeviceIDs() returned -1

This is what my system looks like (OpenCL is present):
02:25:01: GPUs: 1
02:25:01: GPU 0: Bus:1 Slot:0 Func:0 NVIDIA:8 GP102 [GeForce GTX 1080 Ti] 11380
02:25:01: CUDA Device 0: Platform:0 Device:0 Bus:1 Slot:0 Compute:6.1 Driver:10.2
02:25:01:OpenCL Device 0: Platform:0 Device:0 Bus:1 Slot:0 Compute:1.2 Driver:442.19

With the correct divers, you should be able to fold on your GPU without getting any errors :)

I have got Nvidia Geforce Experience and I installed the drivers from there before and they are up to date. Anyway I will try the driver from the website. The game ready driver is the same as mine and Studio driver is not available.

Latest drivers should always install opencl package as well.

Try something else:
in systray, right click fahcontrol, select Advanced Control.
Right click on your GPU slot, select Pause
Click on Configure top left corner
Select Slots tab
Select your GPU slot, slick Edit at the bottom right
GPU-index write 0
OpenCL-index write 0
CUDA-index write 0
Click OK bottom right
Click Save bottom right
Wait for a second or two for changes to be saved (you can see SAVING... at the bottom of the fahcontrol).
Right click on the GPU slot, select Fold. See if it starts connecting to server to get work.
If it doesn't, and it still shows that opencl device is not found, click on Configure
Select Slots tab
select your GPU slot, click Remove, at the bottom right.
Click Save at the bottom right. Wait for the slot to disappear from main window.
Click Configure
Slots tab
Click Add at the bottom right
Select GPU bubble
GPU-index write 0
OpenCL-index write 0
CUDA-index write 0
Click OK bottom right
Click Save bottom right

I hope this will help ;)

Thank you so much, the first option already worked. I thought that wouldn't change anything but yeah it works.

This Line in the Log is intersting:
19:39:26:WU00:FS01:0x22:Temperature control disabled. Requirements: single Nvidia GPU, tmax must be < 110 and twait >= 900

Normal?

Thanks for your help

Yeah, normal. It is a leftover from an early version of the GPU folding core that included this as a last ditch method of avoiding overheating a GPU when running. It never worked all that well, and was turned off by default in the client.

Several years later, the firmware and GPU drivers do a much better job of protecting the GPU from overheating. This is one of the items on the list to be removed form the folding core code.

Do I need to worry about the line in the Log I mentioned?
