(former) New version 7.6.9

Post by Homecomp »

Hi, I had the previous version and according to my stats I've completed 18 wu's.... I saw the update version and down loaded it. I installed this as the previous version had not been able to upload the last completed package for the last 5 days not able to get new WU's either (but I understand the problem)
Once the new version was installed I started the Client Control and it appears to be trying to connected to local 127.0.0.1:36330 and is now in a cycle of trying to connect, the info bar at the bottom says - On client "local" 127.0.0.1:26330:Access denied, invalid Password.
I have put in the password I had written down as being used for FAH but nothing happens it still rejects the password.
The Folding@Home web Control page does not recognise my user name and passkey, which I obtained from Folding@home Passkey, I kept the original email with the number on. The web Control page just keeps saying Folding@Home Disconnected please reload the page..I do that and reenter my passkey but we again go round and round in circles.
I Uninstalled FAH and reinstalled it keeping the data files. Nothing has changed still unable to send the lat WU i had nor can I log in to get any more
I cannot send any data as the Advanced Control Screen is unable to connect

Thanks in advance

That is a FAH bug, I had the same issue. I solved it by installing the previous FAH version again and then in FAHControl remove the obsolete password. Then install new FAH version again and FAHControl works now without a password. https://github.com/FoldingAtHome/fah-issues/issues/1419

Hi Foldy,
I have done exactly as you have suggested. I Unistalled 7.6.9 and installed 7.5.1 every thing went accordingly and my FAH Control and web site control page all sprung into life.... So I removed the password from the FAH Control and the system continued to work trying to upload the last of my Wu's and trying to get new ones.
I was happy with that. so I quit FAH and then installed 7.6.9. All appeared to go normally. I did not tell it to start automatically. So I went to the Icon on the front screen and double clicked. It jumped into life and showed me the web page control I input my details as requested, But it just refuses to connect and I again get the same error message as before So I started the FAH Control panel it does not have a password and keeps trying to connect and then update in a loop as last time.

I am now at a loss.....so Im going back to 7.5.1 as at least I know it connects but whilst it was running was unable to upload and or download anything...so I will unistall 7.6.9 and reinstall 7.5.1 and just wait and see what happens.

I am guessing you just type a new one in the field in FAHControl?

Fairly sure that password that is one just sety in the FAH Control to manage how remote access is gained to the client ... If you are on the machine and in the advanced control you should be able to either delete it or overtype/type in a new one.

He is not looking for a Passkey, but a password entered into the client for network connections. Two different things.

That is the passkey that you will egt emailed and I believe Homecomp is asking for the Password as stated in the specific panel of the Advanced Control .... which is not the passkey but the Client Connection password for securing access to the client.

Welcome to the F@H Forum Homecomp,

If you have access to the system, I believe that the password would be stored in the config.xml file which you can open up and view in clear-text... at least, that's how it was in the previous versions but I haven't checked this feature out in the new ones.

Have you got this sorted now? … You can just set a new password in the advanced control then use that in whatever you are trying to connect to it with.

Hi PantherX,
Yes I can see the FAH Client folder but not the file Config.xml. I have searched for that specific file and it came back with 17 separate links to FAHClient, each has a modified date the most recent one 23/4/2020 13:20 the oldest one 25/3/2020 10:51 - each and every one only has my Passkey info in it...No password for the FAHControl connection password.....
I did follw the instructions given by Foldy and I was able to make the 5.7.1 v work without a password but when i upgrade to 7.6.9 v the FAHControl does nothing but continuously repeat the same circle of update and connecting saying nothing in the info bar at the base.
If I put in what I think is the password it just repeats Password invalid. Yet I had removed the password from 5.7.1 and it kept working with no problems, still connected but stuck unable to uploads the last WU i had completed and is unable to connect to get new assignment (i can appreciate the problems at this time)
But it was working fine.
I have at the moment the 5.7.1 v running No Password in the FAHControl...... and even IF i put a password in...it still is running ok.....But I am not able to get the upload sorted it been failing to upload now for the last 3 days i can paste the log if you wish.
Thanks
