Just keeps attempting but doesnt actually start folding

on web control, it just says ready but doesn't start or do anything, On advanced control under status it keeps attempting and the number of attempts goes up and up and keeps scheduling the next attempt but just does not start. Another thing is whatever I do it cannot discover/recognize that I have a GPU (1050ti - on latest drivers) and tries to fold off CPU, I have been into advanced control>configure>slots and the only thing that shows up is my CPU. When I am in advanced control every so often the whole thing greys out (like the buttons) and says at top 'Client: local updating inactive' after a few minutes it goes back to 'online' instead of updating, another thing to note is that the 'inactive' bit has never changed. Please help I cannot find anything anywhere else.

Could you please post your log including the first 100-200 lines?

Regarding the attempts: Its absolutely possible that you struggle for a bit in the search for WUs. There are many folders active right now and there are simply not enough WUs for everyone. You should get some rather soon however. The attempt timer can be reset by pausing the folding slot for a minute and restarting it. If the timer goes up to hours at some point...

Try to manually add a GPU slot in FAHControl. Configure - Slots - Add - GPU with default settings. If that doesnt work, try the quote, then try again.

Regarding the inability to add a GPU slot, I would suggest that you:
Manually download the GPUs.txt file from here: https://apps.foldingathome.org/GPUs.txt (right-click save as GPUs.txt)
Exit the client
Copy the GPUs.txt file from the Downloads folder to %AppData%\FAHClient
Reboot your system
Start up the client and ensure that you can see your GPU in the log file
Add a GPU slot from FAHControl -> Configure -> Slots tab -> Add -> GPU -> OK -> Save

Ok I have tried the add GPU before but I did it again, it now says 0 CPU , 1 CPU under the folding slots parts. Here's the Log,

Thanks for posting your log. It seems that you have ended up adding another CPU Slot and you have lots of connectivity issues. This is the sequence of tasks that needs to happen in this order:

A - Removal of Extra CPU Slot
1) Open up Advanced Control (AKA FAHControl)
2) Click Configure
3) Click Slots Tabs
4) Click "1 CPU "
5) Click "Remove"
6) Click "Save"

B - Configure CPU Slot
1) Open up Advanced Control (AKA FAHControl)
2) Click Configure
3) Click Slots Tabs
4) Click "0 CPU "
5) Click "Edit"
6) In CPU Value, enter 6
7) Click "OK"
8) Click "Save"

C - Download GPUs.txt file
1) Manually download the GPUs.txt file from here: https://apps.foldingathome.org/GPUs.txt (right-click save as GPUs.txt)
2) Exit FAHControl
3) Right click on the icon in the notification tray and select "Quit"
4) Copy the GPUs.txt file from the Downloads folder to C:\Users\Lewis\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient

7) Open up Advanced Control (AKA FAHControl)
8) Click Configure

Yep, so far it looks good and the last issue seems to be network related. Hopefully, the troubleshooting thread can resolve your issue(s)

Hi,

I've tried all the troubleshooting things and non seem to work,
on status on AC it always says waiting on: WS Assignment - not sure if that helps.
I heard some people say when it says that its just a waiting game for the server to assign you something.

This is often a sign your firewall is blocking fahclient. I would go in the firewall and add a rule for the application fahclient that it is allowed to send and receive on public and private networks.
Control Panel> Networking and Internet>Windows Firewall>Allow an App through the Firewall>Change Setting, Allow another app then search for fahclient

One 'secret' to getting Work Units is to reboot your PC if you notice you are not getting work.

The longer it sits waiting, the more rarely it checks to see if there is work. Rebooting restarts the timer.

So when you are waiting, update your Nvidia Drivers and reboot, or update Windows and reboot. Or just reboot for faster WU checking.

still no luck, I've changed the firewall and updated drivers and restarted 3 times, I've left it for a while and the log is still displaying the same as before:

That's a good start but unfortunately, there's no clear path. Do you have any software/hardware firewall that could block/intercept network traffic? How about anti-virus/anti-malware/anti-spyware/anti-ransomware application?

So would you say its just down to no WU being assigned ? or is something still incorrectly configured?

As for windows firewall I have sorted that out and that's not a problem, I don't actually have any anti virus or anything and the standard windows one is always disabled because I've had problems with it before.
