7.6.9 no GPU on Windows 10 (Radeon VII)

Post by NormalDiffusion »

I just updated to version 7.6.9 on Windows 10 Pro 1909 and there is no GPU slot.
CPU is working fine, but GPU is not recognized (Radeon VII).
Adding the slot manually in the Advanced Control result in the slot disappearing (done using: FAHControl -> Configure -> Slots tab -> Add -> GPU -> OK -> Save which results in a slot with ID -1).
Editing config.xlm and adding the slot with the right ID (1) results in constant errors in the client window (sorry, forgot to write down what was there).
I also checked the GPU.txt on the system, it was listing the Radeon VII...

So back to the previous version.

I would suggest that you:
Manually download the GPUs.txt file from here: https://apps.foldingathome.org/GPUs.txt (right-click save as GPUs.txt)
Exit the client
Copy the GPUs.txt file from the Downloads folder to %AppData%\FAHClient
Reboot your system
Start up the client and ensure that you can see your GPU in the log file
Add a GPU slot from FAHControl -> Configure -> Slots tab -> Add -> GPU -> OK -> Save

Let us know if that works or not :)

I did the manual add but it doesn't "stick" even when I add it and select OK.

What drivers did you install? I'm curious as to whether this is any different from the logs before the upgrade.

If you look at %APPDATA\Roaming\FAHClient\logs you should find older logs. See whether they have that same error about nvcuda.dll

Drivers are 19.10.1
Newer ones are giving me problems with my card (screen flickering black, sometimes in F@H errors asking if I'm running OC (which I'm not, just undervolting)

As for the nvcuda.dll: Sorry, no more logs, everything deleted by the multiple install/de-install today. But as far as I can remember, I always had this error

Code: Select all

CUDA: Not detected: Failed to open dynamic library 'nvcuda.dll': The specified module could not be found.
I thought it was normal, as I'm on a Radeon

That correct, you can ignore that line for AMD GPUs.

Thanks for letting me know!
Although the manual fix is quite easy and fast.
I had the problem on all systems, even with Nvidia cards.
