Local Folding@Home Web Control Blinks

Post by PaulMpls »

After successfully installing and being able to view the Local Folding@hom Web Control page, the page now just blinks/refreshes indefinitely without showing any data. I can't make any changes as it refreshes too fast. I installed taking just about all the default options except I changed to only run on idle. I installed this on a Windows 10 and a Mac machine using the same user name, team, and key. I'm able to reproduce the issue on both machines and using different browsers (Chrome & Edge). Restarting the machine does not fix the issue. I'm able to open the FAHControl from the system tray, but I'm not sure the program is actually processing any data anymore. Searching for stats on my user name show no results even though it's been a couple of days since installing.

I don't think this has to do with installing on a second machine (Mac) and using the same user name, team, & key, but it did start happening after that, so I'm tempted to uninstall on the second machine to see if that fixes it, but I thought I'd ask here first. Any ideas? Thanks.

Welcome to the F@H Forum PaulMpls,

Regarding the Web Control, it seems that you're encountering an issue so the workaround is number 7 in this post: viewtopic.php?f=61&t=32463

Installing the clients using the same username/passkey/team is perfectly fine.

I am guessing that since you have configured to fold only when idle, the client is waiting for the OS to tell it that it is idle. On Windows, idle state is determined by the screensaver so you can setup a blank one: https://www.howtogeek.com/225305/how-to ... indows-10/
I believe that on macOS, idle is defined by lack of keyboard/mouse input.

The suggested solution at number 7 in this post: viewtopic.php?f=61&t=32463 isn't working for me. My web control works properly in Edge. In Chrome I get the endless blinking. Oh well. I mention this as fyi for whoever might be working on fixing the problem.

It may depend on which version of Edge you have, older versions used MS's own code base, recent versions are based on Chromium from Google. Whatever changed in Chromium happened in the latter part of 2019, browsers built on later versions of it are effected. That includes recent versions of Chrome, Edge, and Opera.

Hopefully an updated version of Web Control will not have this problem.

I have the Chromium version of Edge and it has the same issue as Chrome on Windows and Mac. I tried the options that jtellerelsberg suggested, but was not successful. I don't have the issue with Internet Explorer on Windows or Safari on Mac. So as long as I know the workaround (use a different browser), I'm OK.

Thanks.

If you install the latest version 7.6.8 which just came out today, the problem seems to have been fixed. I use Vivaldi, also Chromium-based.
Fix mentioned in commit https://github.com/FoldingAtHome/fah-we ... 29cc86bf27.
