Need help with Ubuntu 18.04 and GTX 960
I have an old rig I want to set up with Ubuntu, and it's got an nVidia GTX 960. A stretch goal for this rig is to also include an old GTX 550 Ti.
So far, I can't even get started with the 960.
Steps so far:
(1) Installed Ubuntu fresh with the 960 already installed, without the 550
(2) added drivers repository
(3) installed nvidia-driver-440
(4) Discovered the annoying GPU=false client option and changed it to true
(5) successfully added a GPU slot which displays the 960
Right now I can't get past Waiting On FahCore Run. Tried changing opencl-index and cuda-index to 0 from -1, but that does nothing.
Please help

Posting top 200 or so lines of your may help solve this ... viewtopic.php?f=24&t=26036 ... but I suspect the GTX 550 Ti only does OpenCL 1.1 and may not be capable of running current FAH projects

Would be my guess … but I really know less than zero about Linux … Fairly sure there will be threads on installing OpenCL on Linux if you want to search the forums whilst waiting for an informed response

You will also need:
Code: Select all
sudo apt install ocl-icd-opencl
sudo apt install ocl-icd-opencl-dev
Re: Need help with Ubuntu 18.04 and GTX 960
I did install based on other threads. I also searched for just now, but Ubuntu didn't find it.
Code: Select all
ocl-icd-opencl-dev

I had a similar issue on Fedora. ocl-icd created libOpenCL.so.1 but not libOpenCL.so. All you have to do is make a link.

Re: Need help with Ubuntu 18.04 and GTX 960
ocl-icd-opencl-dev installed, and now it's working!!
Is there any reason I should also install ocl-icd-libopencl1 ? Would that make my GTX 550 work?
That's my next step here--to try and get the 550 working.

Re: Need help with Ubuntu 18.04 and GTX 960
If it's working, there is surely no reason to install another one. The problem with the GTX 550 is it does not support OpenCL 1.2, so it will probably not work.Joker wrote:ocl-icd-opencl-dev installed, and now it's working!!

Re: Need help with Ubuntu 18.04 and GTX 960
Questions for trying to get my GTX 550 Ti working alongside my GTX 960:
(1) First off, how can I determine whether this hardware is even compatible?
(2) Assuming it is, once I plop it into the PCI slot, do I need to install its drivers? How does installing drivers for different GPUs in Ubuntu work? Does it work? Do the drivers interfere with each other?

Re: Need help with Ubuntu 18.04 and GTX 960
According to https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/g ... 50-ti.c274 it only supports OpenCl 1.1, but FAH-cores need 1.2 to work. So, there is not much hope...

That's encouraging enough for me to try a little more.
That same post says
Is that how these drivers work? Is it one package for the whole OS, and all your GPUs must fit in the same package? If so, I'm moderately hopeful that both the 960 and the 550Ti are both legacy enough that they'd fit in the same package.toTOW wrote:I think the problem here is that this old GPU requires legacy drivers, which are a different package than the one used for 2060. I'm not sure it's worth the hassle of trying to run this ancient and rather low end GPU ...
Unless I hear a great argument against wasting my time, my plan is to finish the current WUs and plop the 550 in, load up, and try adding the slot to see what happens
