I'll do as you've said, though, and just let it run.
If you can set to 'finish' via the advanced menu so if/when it finishes you don't download another unit you can't process. You didn't mention what the specs were of your system but unless it incredibly slow this seems wrong maybe you have many other processes running at same time reducing priority or you have the slider at lowest priority. Usually the time per frame and points per day settle down after 3% but assuming it doesn't you could try a restart and see what that does. It may just take you back to about where you were or reset how it is being processed.
I've stopped and started it a few times to see if that would help but it made no difference. I've stopped it for a while to try and account for thermal throttle but that doesn't seem to be the case. Lastly, I've restarted my pc completely and it remained just as slow. I've also made sure I'm not working on battery since I'm folding on a laptop and that my power plan is on high performance.
my CPU is an intel i7-8750h. It's not amazing by any means but I've completed 36 WUs so far, with a little over half being CPU WUs and I've not had anything even close to this. They're usually done within a few of hours at most. I'm unsure if it matters but I have a samsung 970 evo ssd and 32gb ram. Graphics card is a 1080 mobile gtx but I don't suppose that'd affect CPU WUs.
Logs seem normal and I've processed at least one WU of the same "project family"(? by this I mean that they have the same description), namely project 13828, which was reasonably quick.
Per your suggestion, I've set my CPU WU's to finish but I don't think there's a way this one is going to get done quickly enough.
