Viewer

Post by DoctorAwesomesauce »

Is the Viewer supposed to be rendering what my computer is working on in real time? It has been stuck on Connection: Trying and Protein: Demo for a while. Is it perhaps because the servers on F@H are a bit bogged down by extra traffic?

The viewer is busted, it always shows the demo. There are a couple people working on fixing it for the CPU work units; it sounds like it's going to take a lot of work to fix the viewer for GPU work units.

Yeah, something broke in the last update. I'm not sure what it is. With the huge surge in new F@h over the past month, priorities have shifted to helping the servers keep up and getting more projects into the queue.
F@h is now the top computing platform on the planet and nothing unites people like a dedicated fight against a common enemy. This virus affects all of us. Lets end it together.

One would think rendering would be handled locally and not over the server, which is what it looks like is happening to me. As long as the science is happening properly, the fancy visual tricks don't matter that much.

Rendering happens locally. FAHViewer opens the workunit that your computer is currently working on. If it can't open it for some reason, it shows the demo protein.

I was saying that the developer knows about it, but all hands are currently devoted towards just keeping up with demand and getting after the Wuhan Coronavirus.

Yeah, that's understandable.

This worked perfect for me, after searching for days about always showing demo mode.

Completely exit FAH from your taskbar.

Extracted files from 7.4.4 are on this google drive:

Code: Select all

ttps://drive.google.com/drive/folders/12Ya7Sxsv161BFIrsbqgz9bySwKJKkXIH?usp=sharing
Find your local FAHClient (v7.5.1) install directory.
Mine was in Win 10 (C:\Program Files (x86)\FAHClient)

Copy the downloaded 2 files from the google drive and replace the FAHViewer.exe and freetype6.dll into your install directory.
(FAHViewer.exe will be asked to be replaced or you are in the wrong folder)

Thank the dev here
