Points credited to wrong team: LinusTechTips_Team
I can't figure something out on how my points are being credited.
When I joined up recently, I formed a team "Monkton_VT" (team 24628), within minutes of starting to fold. I've not recruited anyone yet, so I believe it's just me at this point. When I look at my stats, it shows a score of 1,330,219 and 171 WU for me as a donor. Looking at contributions by team below, it shows my team, Monkton_VT at only 28,555 points and 18 WU. Below that, it shows "LinusTechTips_Team" with 1,301,664 points and 153 WU.
I've never joined LinusTechTips_Team. Why are the vast majority of my points and WU being credited to them? How do I correct this?

Re: Points credited to wrong team?
I guess you mistyped your team number and it's very close to LTT's one ... check your clients configurations.
Re: Points credited to wrong team?
John, from what little research I can do on this subject, I think there might be more than one "John_Mc". According to the stats over on Extreme Overclocking, the first record that they have for the user "John_Mc" is from May 3rd 2015 (https://folding.extremeoverclocking.com ... =&u=678045). The last points posted under that user were from last month. I don't know how long you have been folding, but as your current team is not in the top 12,000 teams, the EOC page has not updated any stats for your user. The official F@H stats page, on the other hand, has your recent points and list your current team.
I think this is just a matter of you will have to manually separate out the points in your head when looking at the stats or create a different, unique username to fold under if you really wish to keep things separated.

Re: Points credited to wrong team?
I just started folding on 3/18/20. I have not changed settings, but someone must have seen this and edited something, because LinusTechTips_Team is no longer showing up in my stats. Unfortunately, when they edited, they also took away almost all of the points from me (1.3 million) that I had earned individually, so I'm down to about 35,000 now. (I'm assuming they just split off the points that had been mistakenly counted under LinusTechTips_Team's totals).MrFrizzy wrote:John, from what little research I can do on this subject, I think there might be more than one "John_Mc". Not a big deal. The cause is more important than the points, but still a bit disappointing. I suppose it's possible those points were awarded to me erroneously. I have not been paying all that much attention to the rate at which I was accumulating them.
Re: Points credited to wrong team?
I am also experiencing the same thing as John_Mc.
I set up team 235233 last summer and came back to F@H this month. Since doing this, all WUs and points are going to "LinusTechTips_Team" - like John_Mc, I've never joined LinusTechTips_Team. I have double checked the clients I have running - they list the correct team number - and I've even set them up again just to be sure. I might not be finishing WUs nearly as fast as John_Mc but I'd still like to fix this.
So, why are my points and WU being credited to LinusTechTips_Team? How do I correct this?

Re: Points credited to wrong team?
Well, after disappearing from my stats page earlier today, LinusTechTips_Team is back, and the 1.3 million points are again showing on my personal account. How do I get rid of LinusTechTips_Team, and make my points acrue to the correct team (along with my previous points that were going to the wrong place?)
Should we be asking this question somewhere else? If so, where and to whom?

Re: Points credited to wrong team: LinusTechTips_Team
The points under the user name "John_Mc" that are assigned to LinusTechTips_Team don't appear to be yours. The "Active Clients (within 50 days)" for that donor & team are 0, so all those points were earned more than 50 days ago, therefor not by you.
I don't know if there's anything you can do about it other than change to a user name that nobody else has ever used. But even that won't stop somebody else from using that same name in the future & putting you in the same position again.

Re: Points credited to wrong team: LinusTechTips_Team
So I queried the username I fold under, "Wilsonian," on stats.foldingathome.org, and I got a strange result. Two donors were returned, one on the team I made last summer (235233) and one on LinusTechTips_Team (223518), but both sharing the same rank (173,735 as of this post). When I looked up John_Mc, I got a similar result - two apparent donors with the same username, with different points and WUs, but the same ranking. While I can't speak for John_Mc, I expect that they too have double- and triple-checked their clients' team affiliation, donor name and passkey.
I wonder if something has changed on the back end, not the client side, that might have inadvertently caused our accounts to "split" such that our donor/passkey, team affiliations, etc. remain the same for us, but are instead credited differently when the WUs are completed and returned?

Re: Points credited to wrong team: LinusTechTips_Team
To the point made by Jon_Ault, all clients I have running are listed under my team (235233) but all WUs they are completing end up with LinusTechTips_Team (223518) regardless - I suspect the same is true for John_Mc.

Re: Points credited to wrong team: LinusTechTips_Team
I thought it was not supposed to go solely by user name, and also used the passkey. At any rate, when I clicked the link to check if the username was in use, I got a "405 Not Allowed" error. I just tried it again and got the same error.jonault wrote:The points under the user name "John_Mc" that are assigned to LinusTechTips_Team don't appear to be yours. If I change the name using the "change identity" link on the folding web control page, it does not revise my existing user name, it just starts reporting future work units under the new name. There is no way I can find to check if that new name is unique, and it would be starting over on my point count.

Re: Points credited to wrong team: LinusTechTips_Team
I think I submitted a bug report on this with a link to this thread for a description, but it's hard to tell if it went through. The box that popped up says "please wait, submitting report". When I click OK, it disappears, but no acknowledgement of submission. Clicking on "show all bug reports form this IP address" turns up a blank page.

Re: Points credited to wrong team: LinusTechTips_Team
i think the ranking is for the user name, nothing else, based on the combined points submitted by anyone using that name. If you're using a passkey, the points you earn with that passkey are associated with it, but I don't see any way to search the stats site based on a passkey. That would be the only way to see the points that are uniquely yours - other folks may use the same name but passkeys are unique.
The one thing you can do is specify both the donor name and team number when searching the stats - that way only the points earned by that user AND team are displayed.

Re: Points credited to wrong team: LinusTechTips_Team
I can't help but be suspicious of the "two different users with the same user name" theory - wouldn't that make every username essentially a team?jonault wrote:i think the ranking is for the user name, nothing else, based on the combined points submitted by anyone using that name. Also, that doesn't solve our problem of having the client display one team while it is running, and then having the WUs generated by that client credited to a different team.
Thanks for submitting the error report, John_Mc!
