Just some theories

Post by PurePunjabi »

Hi guys... I don't know I posted a while back, am a benchmarker/overclocker I have a pretty decent system.

But as I have Nvidia the GPUs cannot use folding at home. And I also like have a quad core system.

I was thinking, would it be possible to fold parts on the GPU and also on the CPUs simultaneously - improving the performance of folding? on the coding side how difficult would it be to make the app compatible in this setup?

I see it this way... If am folding, then am only folding on the CPU cores, and the dual SLI GPU are sitting there not doing anything! As I understand, GPUs fold faster (?) but there not versatile as CPUs (?) does anyone see what I am trying to get at here?

You can fold on nVidia GPU : viewforum.php?f=43 ...

Oh right cool... I just came back after a while I gave up on the whole folding thing. When I came here a few months ago and it did not work with the nVidia, GPUs.

It would be impossible. GPU2 WUs are different
from regular WUs. they have different optimization rather than regular WUs who have SSE, SSE2, or AltiVec optimization.

Except, when PandeGroup make a new type WUs who can running both on GPU or CPU, it would be possible (and it will be end of CPU ...) :)
