It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though NVidia has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

Hi!
I had\have? some problem running folding on my new RTX 2080 GPU

This I my computer....

OS Windows 10 Pro
CPU Threadripper 1950X@3900 MHz
RAM Kingston 2400 MHz ECC 32 GB
GPU Palit Geforce RTX2080 Dual 8G @1250 MHz, Driver 430.39
PSU Corsair 850HX 850 watt
Folding Version: 7.5.1

CPU and GPU are water cooled and the computer runs absolutely stable.

I was previously folding on a old Radeon HD7970 card and have now upgraded to a Palit GeForce RTX 2080 Dual card.
I uninstalled the driver for the HD7970 card and also uninstalled the folding program prior to installing the RTX 2080 card and
then I first let my OS, Windows 10 Pro, install the driver for the RTX 2080 card before I reinstalled folding.
After this I was unable to run folding and I discovered that the OpenCL-index was marked with a zero in the folding program under Configure\Slots\1 gpu.

I uninstalled the driver for the graphic card and then installed the newest driver from the Nvidia web-page, driver 430.39, and now folding seams to work properly but a strange thing is that the fan on the PSU is very noisy when I am folding despite the fact that I have underclock the GPU to 1250 MHz and the memory on the graphic card is underclocked to 5800 Mhz.

The power draw from the computer when I am folding is 500 - 525 watt which is the same as when I had the Radeon HD7970 installed but the PSU fan was never noisy when I run folding on the HD7970 card.
To day I have run folding continuously for 11 hours and have got 241000 points.

With some work units I got the following WARNING in my log file.... "WARNING:FS01:Size of positions 2073 does not match topology 2067"

My questions is if this behavior looks normal for a RTX 2080 card or should I maybe install an other driver version and in that case, which one?

The warnings can be ignored. The driver 430.39 has some CPU load issues so I recommend 425.31

Do you have one CPU core free to feed the GPU?

Why do you downclock the GPU so much? Why not let it run on standard speed?

You currently get only 2/3 of the PPD you could get on full speed.

If PSU gets noisy then maybe it needs more fresh air, is there any dust or you need some case fans?

What is running on your CPU? Maybe reduce that CPU load and PSU gets more silent.

Because that my PSU fan start spinning fast and get weary noisy if I run the GPU at the standard clock which is 1515 MHz.
This is very strange because when I was using the Radeon HD7970 card the computer actually used the same power, 520 watt, but I could not hear the power supply fan.

Read the previous answers and I have cleaned the air intake and air out so that is not the problem.

28 thread on BOINC but I have done that for more than a year now while folding on the HD7970 and which used the same amount of power, 520 watt, without the PSU getting noisy.
It is strange if the PSU have start to malfunction exactly at the same time I changed to the RTX 2080 card but I think I will buy a new power supply to see if that helps.

28 thread on BOINC plus FAH. What is your total CPU utilization the way you machine runs most of the time? If you pause FAH, what does it change to?

For Windows, EVGAs xoc software, or MSI afterburner software, will allow you to cut some power to the card.
Nvidia-smi does this for Linux.

By default, it seems that a 2080 runs 20Watts higher than a 7970.
When folding, it is not using the full 220-225W though, but averages around 180W.
Instead, I'd recommend to run the card stock (no underclocking) and limit power to 75-80%, or limit it to 150-160W.
If you want to, most RTX cards overclock safely by under 90mhz on the GPU core, and you could combine power limiting with overclocking.
Just make sure the card's temperatures remain under 80c, the lower the better.
Personally, I increase the fan speed by a few percent over stock, as these cards run too hot with stock fan settings.
But just below where they become audible or obnoxious.

What I think is happening, is that those last 20W brought your PSU in a next power setting, where it is possible that the PSU fan is running a higher (if not highest) setting.
Limiting the power, and combining with a very mild overclock, will get you near to stock performance, at a lower power draw.

CPU utilization is 90 - 100% on 3 cores, 75 - 100% on 1 core and 100% on 12 cores.

At this moment my watt-meter reports that the computer pulls only 490 watt but my PSU is very loud, if I paus BOINC the load drops to 270 watt and the PSU fan stays silent.
I guess that a new PSU is needed.

Some BOINC applications tend to interfere more with FAH on GPU than others ...

Yes but I currently only run World Community Grid under BOINC which is CPU work units only and under Folding I only run the GPU application.

The way you're doing it sounds good. Just a warning for others reading this topic: simultaneously running CPU projects for BOINC and FAH is extremely tricky. Trying to balance those CPU projects is NOT easy.
