I have tried that stop folding when done button option but it does not fold the current project then when that is done STOP before assigning me another. I just go from folding one to being assigned a new one right away so it just seems like a pointless button -_- . Is there a place for me to tell if the current fold is requiring 3 CPU to run? If I could get it to not reassign right away I would do the change at the end of this fold before the next project otherwise.
I'm not aware of any SMP projects that would object to changing between 2 and 3 cores, either way. YMMV :)
"Finish" does work as advertised, either per slot or for the whole PC. However subsequent Pause or Resume will override it, possibly also Finish does not survive a reboot (can't remember from testing 7.4.4 in beta).
I don't know anywhere that list the CPU restrictions for projects, but as above, (almost) all projects will allow 2 or 3. Those that don't will probably have a higher minimum requirement. i don't think I have never seen a 2 only or a 3 only project -- there would be too few slots available to make a viable project.

Maybe then I have a issue with my Finish button because early on when I started folding I had a few times I caught the folding down to under a hour and clicked that button and nope didnt work. I was shutting down for the night and was not going to be on for 8 something hours and didnt want to have a folding project time out on me because it would not be running for so long. Another time I was going to unplug to go in another room but since I learned to change my setting so it didnt stop folding when I went to battery. I will test it out again and remember not to do the pause/resume after or reboot.

The project I was deadlining out on recently and getting reassigned was posted to be a 3 CPU project only and if I changed my CPU to 2 I would not get that one again. So based off of that I was worried I might affect a current running project but good to know that is rare. Crossing fingers when I go to do it and that losing that extra CPU does not slow folding down much.

Got my Graphic drivers updated. Changed my CPU from 3 to 2 with it appears no issues while still folding that new project. I assume I fixed my issues so far.

GPU folding slot is running since Mid Sunday. Kills me though because I dont now even with leaving the computer on continuously, which I have so far, if I am going to finish this current project. With the preferred deadline and the real deadline being with some gap. I dont know if I got assigned this project when it was trying to connect with the failure issues during this past week or if I am just somehow getting upside down timing projects my computer cant fold in the time frame that it should like other computers. The gap is not horrendous and my computer could finish it within reason if I didnt shut it down (I know fully well shut down or pause will extend it and for sure not met deadline) I have not even been using the computer for anything for hours as I slept and so no GPU use does not seem to have reduced the time ETA (and no my computer does not hibernate so it has been working non stop)

Running All systems go.
My computer has 2.94 days to complete this work unit.
9201 (923, 3, 341) Work Unit (PRCG) 3.43 days Work Unit (ETA)

Assigned .. 2015-12-06T21:35:32Z (so I dont believe it was while I was having failure issues)
Timeout .. 2015-12-09T11:59:32Z
Expiration 2015-12-10T07:11:32Z

Again am I wrong to feel that is just such a tight timeline? Or is my computer just not folding at the level normal computer should and there is just not much I can do about it. I have everything set for Full power, Run while I am working, no hibernation of computer, no stopping when on battery, I dont game or run other programs of other types except facebook, email at times, google some and videos with hulu and other sites with some run on the cable site having glitchy issues with the GPU folding slot running which I tested for two hours after the driver update today and it is just a little choppy for one of the hours so I know they must be competing some still. So I am unsure if there is any other way for me to improve the issue or if I should be saying anything about the tight deadline projects for tweaking on the program running side or just zip it as it is just my computer and my reality and nothing can be or will change (so I just sound like I am whining)

My CPU is running a fold that takes
4.07 days Work Unit (ETA) My computer has 26.89 days to complete this work unit. Which is way roomy to do

Code: Select all

Re: Folding deadline

Post by CandaceMcRae »

Ok so never was the best student

So bear with my calculations and attempts to figure this out.

Assigned .. 2015-12-06T21:35:32Z
Timeout .. 2015-12-09T11:59:32Z
Expiration 2015-12-10T07:11:32Z

6th to 7th 21:30 to 24 ... 2:30hrs
7th to 8th . 8th to 9th . 9th to 10th ... 24hrs + 24hrs + 24hrs
10th 0 to 7:15 ... 7:15hrs

2.30+7.15+24+24+24= 82 appx hrs to complete the entire project prior to final deadline

21:36:28:WU00:FS01:0x17:Completed 0 out of 5000000 steps (0%)
07:12:51:WU00:FS01:0x17:Completed 500000 out of 5000000 steps (10%)

2.30hrs + 7.15hrs = 10hrs to do 10% ... so would take my computer apx 100 hrs to do the entire GPU Fold. So even from the start I am 18 hrs short.

I know I have completed a GPU fold not long ago when it suddenly started working correctly. So am I wasting the folding programs time folding on my GPU if I cant complete these or keep trying as I still might get some projects that I can do but I will be sitting on others that could get done by another because I have to wait till it expires?

oh and note I am going to assume the time log is based off of somewhere other than my time zone as it is just now 7am and that log was copied from a 3 hrs ago post

Don't waste your time trying to compute deadlines. Go to the "Project Summary" link found at the top of this page.

The clock for the log is in GMT aka. UTC which is also shown by the "Z" at the end of the date/time. UTC is the worldwide standard time zone for international projects.

Your log also reports that your timezone has a UTC Offset: -5 (also depending on whether you have Daylight Savings Time where you live or not)
