GTX 750 Ti (which one)

Hi all,
So i have decided to take everyone's advice and get a GTX 750Ti.

I have narrowed it down to the EVGA 750Ti SC (shorter card with no additional power needed but only one fan) and the EVGA 750Ti FTW (Double fan card with the ACX cooler and 6 pin power needed)

I have plenty of power in my PSU as i was running 1x6 pin and 2x8 pin running fine. But i'm wondering if there would be any real difference in the cards especially as far as folding goes?
I prefer the look of the longer card but aware it would use more power as it needs the 6 pin and it is also a bit more expensive.

Hopefully it will still be powerful enough to run acceleration for lightroom and photoshop cc.

Any advice?

Hi,

I've got both running in separate rigs and would personally go for the FTW card - it was clocked slightly higher and runs 15 degC cooler at full load. I don't think it draws that much more power (5 W?) and the 6 pin connector would provide headroom for overclocking and also saves on stressing the PCI slot power (useful if you want to run multiple cards).

I don't run photoshop but it's compute power is quite impressive - pretty much a gtx760

Thanks for the reply. The main reason (other than the higher PPD) I wanted to change from my 7770 is that it is SO noisy! I assume that these are fairly quiet and the FTW is quieter than the SC?

Utilities such as EVGA Precision allow you to adjust the fan profile, I think. My guess is you could let the card run a bit hot if you prefer quieter fans. You may want to revert the factory OC back to stock clocks if you do so, though. In any case, I'd think two fans cooling some 75W is going to be really quiet as it is, provided that your case is properly ventilated.

Currently 52 degC at its stock profile (boosting to 1333 MHz and fans on 45 %)

Thanks for the info. That's about what my single fan units run (stock clock). The hottest I've seen has been around 62 C while running an x'15 unit. The room where it runs never gets much above 80 F [... can't do F to C in my head]. Fans seem to be pretty quiet as well (although it's hard sometimes to hear the fans above the ringing in my ears)

I thought about the dual fan model for my last purchase but was scared off because all of the ones that I saw seemed to be factory overclocked, and I wasn't sure about what effect that would have with folding. Sounds like your O.C'd systems are pretty stable.

Decision made from me, sold my 6970 for £75 and going for the FTW dual fan edtn for £100
Looking forward to getting back folding, hopefully with a cooler running card my room will be cooler too! Time to get some proper ventilation in my 'office' too.
