Nvidia GeForce 344.11 WHQL drivers

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though NVidia has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

A shortage which appeared late last week when the new AS code was rolled out, disappeared over the weekend when it was rolled back, and re-appeared on Monday when the new code was run again.

Please don't insult the donors' intelligence by pretending it's not down to bugs in the new code.

Testing new AS

There are still some issues with project weighting ...
Sorry, didn't see the many rolling reports of core_17s coming back over the weekend. Maybe you could link a few of those as well?

You know full well that that's not going to happen- if donors started reporting when things were working properly I'm sure you'd be amongst the first to complain- it's not what this forum is for.

But I think this current topic (and this one, to which you have also contributed) makes the problem clear enough.

Ymmv of course.

For some reason pausing seems to work now. I still haven't got a clue why it works now, but for now it seems to work.
I hope it stays that way, but I just wanted to let you guys know and was hoping other people experienced the same problem, because I know I have found a solution, just don't know what.

One possibility is that Core_15 has a problem pausing and Core_17 doesn't.

FahCores have been develop independently, so they don't all have the same bugs.

Yeah I got core 17 now, but I'd rather have core 15 back because this seems to be full of errors, it takes 10.20 days to complete when I look it up in the viewer it's not visible or keeps loading and worst of all the collection server is 0.0.0.0 so the generated data after 10.20 days will never get collected.
And this is not with just 1 gpu, but both gpu have this problem. Here is the log.

I got it paused now, cause with the collection server @ 0.0.0.0 it just seems like a waste of time, so maybe I wait until this project times out, unless you guys can convince me otherwise I am not gonna waste the extra wattage needed to run my cpu and gpu's at 90+%

There are several things you are misunderstanding. First, not all projects have a CS. The primary return server is the WS that assigned the WU, and the CS if it is defined will be used if the WS is unavailable at the time the WU is being uploaded.

Second is that Core_17 starts off with the WU being prepared to be processed on the GPU by your CPU. Depending on the speed of your CPU it can take 10-15 seconds, even longer on a slow CPU.

Finally time estimates will be inaccurate until the WU has processed several percent of the WU, longer if you have not processed a WU from that project before and the client has no history to use for the estimate. Your log does not show a WU being processed long enough to even have written its first checkpoint as you paused it after less than 15 minutes. If your GPU was not even being used by the folding core by then, there are a number of utilities to show utilization, then that would indicate a problem.

OK, I got a pretty fast cpu in my opinion, according to the log above 05:35:35: CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz which can and probably will do turbo boost up to 3,9Ghz. I am not saying it's the fastest though.
I will unpause the project again for an hour or so and generate a new log, I hope that will help clear this problem.
I did use the asus monitor to output graphs for my gpu's on things like gpu usage and fan speeds etc. etc. and it did go up to 95-100% so it was utilizing the gpu, but maybe you mean other utilities that are more specific to fah.
Anyway will probably do a complete restart of my system in a bit and generate a log for a longer period of time.

Edit: here's the new log:

For some reason when I try to watch the proteïn folding inside the viewer, it still doesn't show me a proteïn being folded, so that doesn't work still, I do like to look what the proteïn looks like for each project that I run.

Re: Nvidia GeForce 344.11 WHQL drivers

Post by Joe_H »

There have been reports of problems with FAHViewer and Core_17 projects being displayed, hopefully to be fixed at some point.

Based on the processing times in this longer log segment, using a bonus calculator I see you are getting about 28K PPD per GPU. There are reports that for folding on nVidia GPU's based on chips before the GK110 is faster using older drivers. Many recommend the 327 version if that is compatible with your other uses of the computer.

Something broke yesterday

All core 17 and 18 fail now on my 980 card been running fine for weeks all report bad work units now.

So seems something stanford side a tweak in the core used not liking driver.

sound like they will be on the case monday.

Thank you for that, at first I was a bit affraid to downgrade the drivers and in the beginning I thought I was right, I only had about 22.5K PPD per GPU with the 344.11 drivers now I'm getting 60K PPD, so this almost trippled the amount.
I will be sure to keep this running until a game is released that needs updated drivers. I really hope that nvidia will consider supporting the older chipsets a bit more again, so I won't have to worry about this speed loss anymore.

Right now the ETA is little under 13 hours with 27% finished and this is a much more better result for me.

Nothing has changed in the core because the version number has not changed. The problem is elsewhere. Driver, WU, etc. we need to figure out what or where.
How to provide enough information to get helpful support

Its widespread 7im, As far as I can ascertain its on all Maxwell cards, seeing it reported here in various forums and across the web on the forums of a few teams.

My AMD are fine, but my 970 and 750's are experiencing the same symptoms.

Why is this topic about 344.11 when 344.16 was released five days later?

Does anybody know if 344.11 is the cause of all the problems?
