Correct, on core_16 WUs, the last known good driver was v12.8. But if you want to be able to fold the higher point core_17 WUs you need 13.4 or 13.6 both of which work very well for folding.

If you also game then you need to balance what works for gaming with what works for fah. You're also selling v13.6 short, but don't take my word for it. Do you own research.

If you mean that deleting the FahCore_16 WU and folding only FahCore_17 WUs, that is called cherry-picking and the problem with this behavior is that you will be slowing down the Project (since WUs are serial in nature) and possibly duplicating the WUs. Something that we strongly discourage.

However, if you want to stick with 13.4 due to other reasons, your best approach to F@H is to configure the GPU Slot for advanced since there are 3 FahCore_17 Projects so there is a much higher likelihood that your GPU will be assigned FahCore_17 WUs whenever it is requesting for one.

Cherry picking work units is also against the EULA and you risk getting your points zeroed out and your donor named closed so it can't download any new work.

Every WU that's assigned needs to be completed and normally it's only assigned to one person. When that person discards it, the server will eventually decide the WU is lost and reissue it so someone else but only after waiting a reasonable amount of time. Add up all those "reasonable" amounts of time and it adds considerable delay to reaching the goals of the scientific study.

That's why 7im said it was a last resort -- something to be avoided if it can be.

Necromancy due to extreme annoyance:

Still not folding. Read somewhere on Overclock.net that the 13.9 drivers solved everything. Not so. Still can't fold, still stuck at 0.00% progress on the GPU. This is my umpteenth attempt and ends up in red hot anger.

Is there any way to fold with this junk glitchy software?

Works great for me. No glitches at all.

Works better with the right driver. Cat 14.1 folds much faster than previous versions. And we know it works. Many have posted as much.

If that still doesn't work, then it's your hardware, not the software.

It would also help to avoid such an annoyance if you let us help you troubleshoot the problem before it got this bad for you. ;)

Wait you're saying 7xxx mobility series have been working fine with no glitches for a while now? What is it that I have to do apart from Cat 14.1? I just want to double click something and for it to work fine, is that the case?

Give me information not opinion. I want this piece of junk to work and fold, that's why I bought flagship.

We don't normally recommend Beta Drivers, however, in AMD's case, the latest Beta has brought some significant improvements for folding to a wide range of GPUs. Thus, if you are willing to test, I suggest that you get hold of V7.4.2 which is in Open Public Beta (viewtopic.php?f=94&t=25657) and give it a try after installing the latest AMD Beta Drivers (http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-article ... -beta.aspx). Just make sure that the previous AMD Driver is fully uninstalled to ensure that there aren't any conflicts.

I'm stating the fact that the fah client works well with most GPUs. It is not glitchy in general. But there are too many and varied makes and models to say it works well on ALL GPUs. Don't be silly.

Please tell us more detail about your setup and we can be more specific with our recommendations.

As always, posting the log would be a good first step.

My memories of 7.3.6 is that the GPU won't fold unless the power slider bar is run up towards the high setting. Haven't seen it mentioned in this thread, but something to check.

Not quite. Full folds full time. Other settings, like light, only fold when the system is idle. If the system is never idle, it never folds.

A log file would show us things like that. Please post one.

That's because at lower settings it's waiting for the system to become idle. That's a countermeasure against lag caused by GPU folding.

Apparently the creator of http://www.overclock.net/t/1323729/upda ... ql-drivers was right. I have 13.12 which is the last WHQL release, and after I had left the computer on overnight (on idle) I woke up the next morning to a folding machine! Afterburner confirmed that the usage was near 99% most of the time (ULPS off) and the temperatures were commensurate with the reported utilization. It was completing a work unit and was around 14% or so on the GPU front.

This is the log:

A couple of questions:

1- PPD for the GPU is 15263, CPU 3906. Is that the best I could with a stable set of drivers?
2- Isn't there supposed to be some real-time simulation of the protein folding you could use as a screensaver or something? "View" just shows me a shot of the globe at night with no real-time changes.

Glad that your system is now folding.

1) Reports have indicated that the Beta Drivers have improved folding performance. However, it is unknown if that is the case with the next WHQL or not.

2) It should either show a live protein or a demo one. However, there is a bug with FahCore_17 which is preventing this (https://fah.stanford.edu/projects/FAHClient/ticket/1112).

Thanks. Well is ~19k ppd for a machine with my specs average? Below? Above? I assume many have my GPU since AMD GCN cards are good folders. I've seen people with 6970M report 18k ppd on various threads though.
