Welcome to the F@H Forum Mr.Hello,

I am getting the following on a Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T8300 (SMP:2):
Avg. Time / Frame : 00:24:59 - 1,752.52 PPD

I would say that your TPF isn't normal at all. Could you please post the initial section of the log by using the Code Tags (in Full Editor) so that we can see the system and F@H configuration. Also, are you running any CPU intensive application while folding? If you are running any CPU intensive application, it would explain the dramatic increase in your TPF.

Very strange...

I got P7520 four times, everytime the TFP is around 30mins...

But other project's WUs were very normal...

Probably not related, but you should update to the latest version of the v6 software (6.34), if not move to the newest V7 client.

Just taking a stab: when running the p7520, is folding running on all 8 cores or some smaller number? Have you considered running folding at -smp 6? to allow for some non-folding CPU usage?

I recall that the 6.29 version of the client for OS X did not support using the A4 core with SMP. That would have required an update for OS X to a later version of the V6 client code. It looks like that might also apply to the client for Linux as well, see this message in the log:
[23:09:02] Work type a4 not eligible for variable processors
So upgrade to a newer version, the processing times appear to be consistent to using only one core of your i7.

Thanks, but I use Diskless Folding version 100804 by Nick Reilly, there is no update, Nick Reilly was very disappointed that something about F@H, so he will not update it.

Is there any way to update the client by myself? or something like this but have a newer client.

Thank you all :)

Upgrading is simple. Stop the client. Download the newer executable and save it over the top of the existing executable. Restart.

Assuming you're using a flash drive to store the checkpoint backups etc you can copy the latest v6 client to the flash drive in the same directory as client.cfg and queue.dat and name it accordingly. IIRC the link name was fah or fah6 but you should be able to figure out the name easily enough. The boot process restores your flash drive data to memory and when it downloads 6.29 it will not be able to create a link in your data directory to 6.29 because you have already put the latest program with the same name as the link where the link would normally go.

I use Nick Reilly's Diskless Folding, it only has a image(maybe a dd raw), after loading it into ramdisk, then there will be a filesystem, but after reboot, there is nothing changed exist... so... it's a complex work...

temporarily, I build my own webserver, and redirect the data stream to stanford on my firewall, so the client can download v6.34 just like 6.29, I use the same filename on my server, and original v6.34 can not be used by the Diskless Folding, I modified it also, next time I got a P7520, we will know if this problem is solved or not...

and I found this post by notfred(Nick Reilly)

Yup, I've dropped working on the diskless stuff for that reason (GPUs >>>> CPUs) and also some other stuff like Stanford not fixing very basic bugs in their code leaving all the users to work around hangs at completion, or basic library incompatibilities across Linux versions. I've even shut down my normal folding stuff.

If someone wants to take over, all of my source code is on Sourceforge and I can even walk them through the designs, but I haven't had any offers so far.
very unfortunately... I was also disappointment sometimes, because of some issue make folding's more complex, F@H team looks not very good at solving problem and bugs...

Well, we solved this problem, which was self inflicted, by not staying up with current versions, and using unsupported 3rd party software. I'd say we did pretty good. ;)

Notfred's tool was awesome back in the day, and whatever issues notfred had are likely addressed in the new V7 client, but we'll never know because he quit. Hopefully someone will pick up where he left off.

Yes, I really hope he can do it again in one day, these days, more and more new NICs is not support by the tool, very unfortunately, and I don't have the ability to modify or compiled a new one, hope someone can do it!

On Intel Core I7-870 run F@H with 8 threads got PPD around 15K now.

But I think the original problem is F@H team...they should fix the issue by update the 32-bit v6 client on linux...
And then I won't need to build my own server and redirect the request originally to stanford now to my fake stanford server...
Welcome to join F@H Taiwan!
