GPU not being assigned WU, no appropriate WS available

This GTX460 is in a 3xGPU (460s) system running 6.41r2 on W7-32 SP1. So far only this one GPU isn't getting fed. I've rebooted just in case something got in a twist, no change. This system has been running as it stands for months, not aware of any recent changes. These GPU are set with the beta flag, but have been getting a steady diet of non-beta WU 762x. Server status shows no faults with the GPU AS server and my DNS returns the correct IP address. I'm a bit perplexed.

I'm not sure if it makes a difference but I notice you're trying to connect to assign-GPU.stanford.edu:8080 whereas all of my v7 GPU slots are using assign-GPU.stanford.edu:80. Can you check the logs on the other two that are working to see which port they're connecting with? It may mean nothing other than a difference between v6 and v7 but it doesn't take long to check and rule it out.

Both of the other two v6.41r2 clients are using 8080 when connecting to the AS and WS.

Looking at a 7.2.9 client on a different box in the same subnet, it connects to the AS on 80 and the WS on 8080, so perhaps a v6 vs v7 default difference.

Unfortunately my next v6 GPU WU to finish isn't until 0200 GMT, seven hours from now. I guess we'll see if anyone else still using v6 GPU has a problem before or wait until my next one goes.

Doesn't V6 need -forcegpu nvidia_fermi ? (I haven't run V6 with GPUs for a long time.)

Hmm, in my experience I've only needed to use that flag when mixing Fermi and pre-Fermi in the same box, but I'll give it a try.

I tried variations of forcegpu, beta and no flags, interestingly when the forcegpu flag is used, it changes from Gpu type=3 species=21 to Gpu type=3 species=20, however no WU is downloaded.

After a couple of days without work, even though other GPUs in the same box continued to get work, I took it upon myself to get it sorted. I installed v7 for just the one idle GPU and it immediately picked up a 7623 like the two other GPUs in the box. No fix, but a suitable workaround.

I'm hitting a very similar problem with my GTX 460 all day today. I just restarted it and got the same "No appropriate work server" problem.

I'm running V6 with Wine, so V7 is not an option.

I've had no interruptions in WUs assignments for my native Windows V7 client and my Kepler GPU. I have no reason to believe that it's a Kepler vs. Fermi issue, though that's a possibility. That leaves the possibility that it's a Windows vs. Wine distinction or perhaps it's a V6 vs. V7 distinction. Does anybody reading this have a native Windows V6 client running a GPU core and if so, are you getting assignments? Which V6 client are you running?

FYI, I have a 9600 GSO running V6.41 with Wine on another Linux rig, and it's had no problems with assignments.

For me, it appears the problem may be Fermi/Kepler cards with V6 clients. My G80 card is working normally with V6.

That's not quite what I understand. G80 cards are assigned projects for FahCore_11, and you're saying that still works. As I understand it, Fermi/Kepler cards are assigned projects for FahCore_15 or FahCore_16. Rhavern said he had tried a variety of -forcegpu settings so that doesn't seem to be the problem.

I'm going to pull my GTX 460 from the Linux rig and run it in a Windows system with both V6.41 and V7.2.9 tomorrow and will report back. If it fails to pull a WU with V6.41 but works with V7.2.9, then I think we can confirm the problem is limited to Fermi/Kepler on V6.41.

In the meantime, I'll let it run overnight to see if it picks up anything.

BTW, the forcegpu flag is mandatory when running V6 under Wine; if you leave it off, the client won't even recognize the GPU.

After doing some searching on the issue, I found a post on another forum that solved a similar problem by deleting queue.dat. I tried deleting the work directory, queue.dat, and unitinfo.txt, and now it's back up and running again. Weird.

It seems to me this happened last weekend as well, but not for this long a time. My SMP client is still running, but it's been working on a 3-day WU for a couple of days, so I don't know if the SMP work server is having the same issues.
