Unable to connect

Post by Penfold »

Problems at the other end? Haven't seen this before.

The last two entries in the FAHlog.txt file:

[07:25:46] + Couldn't get work instructions.
[07:25:46] - Attempt #12 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
Waiting before retry.
[08:13:49] + Attempting to get work packet
[08:13:49] Passkey found
[08:13:49] - Connecting to assignment server
[08:13:50] + No appropriate work server was available; will try again in a bit.
[08:13:50] + Couldn't get work instructions.
[08:13:50] - Attempt #13 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
Waiting before retry.
[09:02:00] + Attempting to get work packet
[09:02:00] Passkey found
[09:02:00] - Connecting to assignment server
[09:02:02] + No appropriate work server was available; will try again in a bit.
[09:02:02] + Couldn't get work instructions.
[09:02:02] - Attempt #14 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
Waiting before retry.

Edit: Connections to work servers mentioned in the log have been tried:

171.64.65.54:8080
171.64.65.54:80
171.67.108.25:8080
171.67.108.25:80

Entering http://171.64.65.54:8080 in my address bar returns a 'can't connect' message. It is the same for each of the others.

I just found this page containing the following server stats:

171.67.108.25 CS 5 vsp19v pande standby Not Accept
and
171.64.65.54 SMP vspg9b - full DOWN

Both of these servers are mentioned in the FAHlog.txt file

There is mention of "-verbosity 9 flag" on that troubleshooting page. What does that mean? I have no idea.

Is this something that normally has to wait until someone in charge notices it, or can I send a report to a specific address?

http://fah-web.stanford.edu/pybeta/serverstat.html says that server is "Down" but also says it is in full operation. I'm still learning how to read the server status page, but I suppose you'll just have to wait until the server is fixed.

The Work Server that handles all uploads and downloads of work for Macs running the version 6 client (171.64.65.54) is listed as down on the server status page. All you can do is wait until the server is fixed and back up and then it should take your finished WU. The collection server for that work has been down for a long time and is not expected back until its software is upgraded.

If your MBPro is running 10.6, the beta Version 7 client may be an option for getting other work to do. But it will not handle uploading the WU just completed. That would take running V6 from the command line after the server is up, and disabling it in the meantime.

I'm the other person having trouble with the same server. I should have posted here in your thread, but for some daft reason I started another one as you can see.

Anyway, the server stats page I found seems to explain why we're having problems, as I indicated in my post.

The verbosity level basically sets how detailed the log will be. v6 client goes up to 9 I believe and v7 goes up to 5.

I think this is something you should wait for. There are people in charge that get on this forum a lot and especially since multiple people have brought it up, they will figure it out. Maybe they even already know ;)
