2. was recommended as a diagnostic test only. The Frame times were so out of wack on the SMP client, we need to isolate that client to try to find the problem.

When you have an ATI card, the V7 fah client is more productive, and is the recommended solution.

Many folks have optimized their ATI GPU in V6 using environment variables. That could decrease the 12% to a smaller number but it can be a real challenge so I don't recommend it, particularly since.running the GPU on V7 will certainly increase the productivity of the GPU and may also decrease the amount of CPU it uses. (ATI was actively working on better drivers but i'm not up-to-date as to whether they've reduced the CPU utilization.)

(Whether you run -smp 6 in the v6 client or you run it in V7 probably makes very little difference.)

Once you migrate the GPU to V7, let's see how it's going and reassess the best options for SMP with the new information. It's not clear whether a smp 6 slot or a smp 8 slot (or the equivalent in V6) will be the best option.

I downloaded v7 and started running the smp/gpu combo version or whatever, and turned off all the old stuff I had. By default it was doing smp:8, but I've turned it to smp:6 which seems to have sped the smp up quite a bit. Might have slowed down my gpu, but probably not since that makes no sense. Probably just a function of my poor recording. I haven't found where to turn on "big" WU's in this version.

See the Configure section about adding slot settings. You have to switch from Novice to either Advanced or Expert to get access.

When I hover over the task bar icon it says Inactive... even though it is definitely doing stuff. Dunno what's up with that. Other than that seems to be going pretty smoothly.

That is probably a known bug. They are working on that.
Congratulations. Glad it's working for you!
