I don't care what they say. It's still unacceptable.

Is it time a beef up the collection servers ?
With the bonus scheme, being able to send in results immediately upon completion is critical.
Also, did you evaluate the donors you are loosing because of these issues ? It might be more than you think ?

Finally. Someone with some common sense who understands the REAL ramifications of PG's lack of foresight and implementation of resources.

Participation in the SMP bonus program is voluntary. This is stated up front. So is the fact that bonuses are NOT guaranteed. You can lose your bonus for any reason. Stanford server issue, or your ISP goes offline. Same end result, and there is no way Stanford can guarantee your ISP won't go offline. Let's get some perspective here.

Please read the bonus program details, and then post any new questions you have. Thanks.

I have read the details and I do understand that they would have no control over anything on MY end. But even if it is voluntary, they still have a MORAL obligation to do everything in their power to have their servers running and accessible 24/7. I can accept that there are some things out of their control such as an earthquake or some other act of God that they would have no control over. But since the other servers were online and working and it took app 24 hours to get the two servers involved back online and functioning it's obvious they did NOT do everything in their power to fix the problem. THAT is what I find unacceptable along with this attitude of they just don't care and it's not their problem. Sorry, but you are wrong and so are they.

Whatever you feel that Stanford owes you for being a voluntary contributor, the researcher whose server went down is much more upset about this than you are. You might have lost a few hundred points. He or She may have had their research delayed or even lost part of it. In the bigger picture, the researcher is much more "disadvantaged" by this server outage than you are.

How do you know they DIDN'T do everything in their power to fix this problem? Are you a mind reader? I don't know how you can assume to know anything about these servers, or what it took to get them back online. Did you know these servers in question aren't even at Stanford? They're in Sweden.

Where are you seeing that "just don't care" evidence? A member of Pande Group responded promptly and honestly at the beginning of this thread. And clearly there was a difficult problem to fix, because Kasson said up front that the problem would take a while to fix. If an lengthy fix only takes 24 hours, then I'd be complimenting them, not complaining, but that's just me. ;)
