i wanna smp but about my upload . . .

I first started folding using the cpu client.
I then began a long affair with the gpu client.
i briefly messed around with a E3300 on smp.
Now, since kidz are in school and winter is coming I thought it might be time to get serious.
I do feel a little behind the times but I am thinking of doing a couple bigadv boxen.

There is only one problem . . .



With the utter lack of upload speed and a gf who LOVES her Facebook games I dont see how it is going to be even near possible.
I read the [H] forums everyday and see the ppd/w exceeding 80, 90, 100
I look at the best gpu out there and it gets ?? about 50

Are there any other options?

If you can calculate when the bigadv WU is over (HFM.NET is really good at this), do what I do, unplug the rest of the systems from the modem and if asked, say that there is a "technical reason" that will resolve in <3 hours

ive tried that before.
I saw how much time facebook my gf was spending so I unplugged her from the switch.
She was not to pleased. I cut her off so she CUT me off also.

Ouch! Not sure if this will work but I heard something about QoS where you can have the F@H packets at a higher priority than everything else so maybe it will work fine.

While uploading your WU, her games and browsing might be a little slower, but it shouldn't be completely down ...

Regular SMP WUs results are between 20 (60xx) and 65 MB (670x) if I'm correct. It shouldn't last very long even with your slow upload speed.

That's a 6015 the previous 6701 at 6kBs took just over 2 hours.
Sometimes it's faster, I'm actually better off with BigAdv as they usually send within 3 hours and only occur every couple of days..
And yes this is the fastest connection available.

I usually fall between 12 and 70 K, and I have 1 bigadv, 4 smp, and 11 gpu sharing that connection, plus whatever I'm doing on the laptop.

For transfers you'll have 8 bits per byte, so 0.97 Mbit/s is 121.25 kByte/s. If a bigadv. is 100 MB, this means 825 seconds, and this equals 13.75 minutes.

In practice you'll likely to get less speed on transfers than such bandwidth-tests indicates, so FAH-client using between 15 and 30 minutes would be completely normal.

seriously though, i want to support AMD and hopefully they can make a comeback, the problem is a Phenom II x6 is not to far away from an i7 in price.

Hey Num1cubfn, your system can't do bigadvanced so a bit theoretical but your question is answered earlier, not very long.
For my previous post I am also sharing that connection with at least 4 gpus so that has to slow it a bit.

The only problem with a Phenom x6 is that it won't be assigned -bigadv units.
