change my WU?
I'm not sure if this is the right forum, so apologies if it isn't.
I've been assigned the following WU: p2611_POPE and it's broken down into 250 parts. My concern is that my rather ageing PC will not be able to complete the WU before its deadline on 8 March. I was assigned the WU on 27 January and it's a work PC that runs for approximately 40 hours a week, normally plenty of time. However since 27 January, my PC is still only on 12/250 and by the end of today I will be lucky if it hits 15.
So is there any way to switch WUs? Either that or does it not matter if a WU is submitted after its deadline?
PC spec: 768MB RAM
2.4GHz Celeron processor

Show your log.
My 2.0gHz c2d runs that wu in 20min/% on 1 core obviously.

Re: change my WU?
Log is below. The PC is nearly always running Opera 10 (with anything from 5-15 tabs open at any one time), Outlook 2002 and Word 2002. I have the core operating at 100 per cent available capacity. It could just be a slow/dying PC, who knows.

Re: change my WU?
2611 is a big unit.. Your celeron a single core?
As it's very consistent, this just seems how your cpu deals with it...... slowly.
Not sure what to tell you, other than suffer through it, and dream of a fast one next time.. The units gonnA sit in fah records till after the deadline then reassigned anyway.

Re: change my WU?
what is your processor's usage when you quit your F@H client? it seems to me that other software you are running uses more than 50% of its performance.i suspect opera requires the most of it. Re: change my WU?
this is result of Celeron 2000MHz, overclocked to 2475MHz for the same project:
also try to set checkpointing frequency to lower time ( work saving interval) it may save you some minutes when you start client and continue folding from what was last saved.

Re: change my WU?
So does that mean the results will not be used or they will? Just seems a waste of time doing the WU if it's going to take so long and then not be used anyway. And if it's not going to be used, is there a way to get the WU changed?

Not yet, but someday Pande Group will jump 237 light years and figure out how to give each class of WU, beit GPU or CPU to the HW that can best fold it> AHHH for the future of the Sciencemiccahotpants wrote:So does that mean the results will not be used or they will? I sure hope you don't have to wait 237 light years.shdbcamping wrote: Not yet, but someday Pande Group will jump 237 light years and figure out how to give each class of WU, beit GPU or CPU to the HW that can best fold it> AHHH for the future of the Science
In the good old days it used to be that my quad machines used to get their a2 wu's from 171.67.108.24, and the duos get their a2 wu's from the 171.64.65.56.
If the 171.67.108.24 wasn't available it switched down to 171.64.65.56 and still got a2 unit (same point value but slightly longer duration).
The problem was only when even the 171.64.65.56 wasn't available, and it switched down to the 171.64.65.64 which had only a1 wu's using my machines at 50%
Re: change my WU?
If a WU is returned before the Preferred Deadline, it will certainly be used because only one person is working on it. After the Preferred Deadline expires, it is reissued. At that point but before the final deadline, either person (or both) may return it for credit.miccahotpants wrote:So does that mean the results will not be used or they will? There is a subtle difference between the points credit and the scientific credit. The scientific project will move forward whenever the first result is returned even if more than one person gets points. As an individual, you have no way of knowing if they're still waiting for your result or if somebody else has returned it. Of course the project tries to minimize these duplicate results, but they do need all results to be returned and the have to make some assumption about when a particular WU is lost, even if it's just delayed.
