Block by Firewall (zonealarm)

Post by Lord_VEK »

It seems that ZoneAlarm firewall prevents fah from connecting to internet. I have 6_beta3 console running as a service. Upon checking the progress of a workunit, I found it was stuck at 100%, so checked the log to find a message about being not able to upload results (but successfully "connected to assigned server"!!) I shutdowned fah from the windows tasklist, launched it manually. ONLY THEN ZoneAlarm told me that fah was trying to access the internet! Of course I allowed the access, but the situation didn't change! Only exitting the firewall helped.

If its the free firewall version, then i'd say have a look at Comodo. I personally got fed up with ZA giving me problems years back.

Comodo gives a fully functional, extremely powerful firewall, for free, and its a full product, not a denatured version of the real thing, like ZA.

If on the other hand you have ZA Pro, then i guess you should give FAH server rights, and open all ports.

I have ZA Free on all my machines and have no problem letting the client through. The first time the client wants to connect I get the pop up permission box. I just click remember this setting and click allow. The other way is to open ZA, click on Program Control. Scroll down to FAH and under Access, click on the ? under Trusted and Internet and click Allow. ZA Free works fine with FAH.
Proud to crash my machines as a Beta Tester!

I also use ZA. It might be that he set it to "automatic" so there are no popups, so he doesn't have the choice to allow the access via the popup dialog.

That's one reason to run ZA in "manual" mode for a while. It may seem to be a bother, but it will actually save time and heartache in the long run...
