Influx of new users

Did they let anybody know they were coming or are we going to run out of workunits like the covid moonshot days?

Re: Point inflation - Longevity Credit

Point inflation is an interesting topic. As someone who was able to take advantage of a job that allowed me to fold on dozens of enterprise class servers back in the advanced methods big units days, I was amused to see that a consumer GPU could outproduce those boxes that cost six figures. Points wi...

Re: No work assigments...

I've got BOINC on my boxes and it will nicely cede the card to F@H when there is work for Folding. I run Einstein (an astrophysics project that sifts through radio telescope data looking for various things) as the work units are not time dependent. Just one way to ensure my boxes are always doing so...

Re: No work assigments...

I had a very small (few minute) delay getting work right now as all 4 assignment servers claimed there was no work for my configuration (big Navi). Older NVIDIA box has no problems getting work.

Re: No work assigments...

Looks like the logjam has broken somewhat, as the 209.202 server has work.

Re: Getting "Exception: Have already seen this work unit" errors

Best I can say is check both your current log file and the older stored log files to see if you actually had processed a particular WU before. If not, then it is possible particular project(s) or server(s) could have an incorrect setting or bug. Normally the servers will only send a WU out to a par...

Getting "Exception: Have already seen this work unit" errors

These are starting to occur with frequency from different work servers. Not sure if this indicates a problem on my end with something corrupted or on the server end (unlikely). 22:35:58:WU00:FS00:Connecting to assign1.foldingathome.org:80 22:35:59:WU00:FS00:Assigned to work server 128.174.73.74 22:3...

Re: Ars Technica: Is distributed computing dying, or just fading into the background?

I read the article. As my username suggests, that was my "home" technical news site. I'm pretty sure I joined to discuss Seti@Home. Anyway, Ars is well... I dunno what to call it. A marginally better version of Wired magazine? The article appears pretty low effort, although for the most pa...

Re: Failing Server - 128.174.73.74:8080

I've looked back through my logs for the last few weeks and I don't think I've ever actually gotten a work unit from this server. Based on the hostname, this is Dr. Paul at UI. Is there perhaps an issue with generating work units for these projects? There's obviously a disconnect between what the as...

Re: Failing Server - 128.174.73.74:8080

It would be nice if the "Failed to assign" condition was detected and the assignment server round robin'ed among the other servers. I just got one from .4.210 which isn't even supposed to have work units based on the server status page.

Re: Project 18448 issue

FWIW, this project and its best friend 18449 crashes my windows 10/6900XT box usually at the first checkpoint. By crash I mean black screen reboot. Once rebooted, the project usually runs to completion.

Joe_H wrote: Fri Oct 14, 2022 5:36 pm There was a bug in a new version of the WS code that was being tested, it should be fixed now. The Bus should have been dumped after a few tries at getting the core, post here for directions on how to delete them if they stuck around.
Its stuck. How do I dump it manually? Thanks.
