Need a little help optimising please.
I've been folding for a while but only on the GPU and Uniprocessor clients... I recently purchased a decent laptop which I now fold with, I was hoping it would be capable of the SMP folding but I havent managed to figure out how to get that working... I intend to run the machine 24/7 to fold, curren...

Re: Electricity Efficiency & Folding..
One reason I suggested using ppd garnered from a 3rd party stats site is the issue of lost work units through EUEs or ps3 power issues etc etc. It also provides a more consistent representation of your "usual" usage although they do provide other ways of getting unusual data I figured that...

Re: Recruiting Methods...
In terms of time limits... I think 1 week should be reasonable so, for CPU clients ~4WUs//1000+ points. After a week... retention is what we need to address but that is a far more difficult topic, far easier to come up with education systems for recruiting [not just advertising or direct referrals b...

Re: Recruiting Methods...
As far as I'm concerned there should be a way of tracking referrals to the project... tracking who you've referred to a team is relatively simple and can be done on the user's end but like you say, its easy to "fake". The passkey would be a good place to start in terms of keeping track of ...

Re: Recruiting Methods...
John, that's a curious issue... as far as using a copyrighted image, surely once you have an "end product" [and assuming you intend to place it where you have permission to do so] it should be a fairly simple process to submit it to Stanford and get them to OK it? People usually only have ...

Recruiting Methods...
I've raised this subject before but usually hidden away inside another thread with little to no response. I want to do a bit of open brainstorming on recruiting methods for folding@home... please feel free to share what has [or hasn't] worked for you in the past. Social Networking: -Facebook "C...

Swiftyy thanks to you and yours for running the contest, I'm a big fan of anything like that encouraging people to join F@H and try and get the most out of their computers for the cause.

Re: PS3 Uses 5x more Electricity than Fridge [Not true]
In Australia at least the laws are very clear on tax-deductable donations... A "Service" can not be tax-deductable and as loaning of your computer's processing power to Stanford University equates most nearly to a "service rendered" there is no deduction to be made. Bottom line, ...

Re: Answers to: Reasons for not using F@H.
Had a quick check through one of the 2 computers she has folding, 1.3mb is the average bandwidth usage per day for a points per day figure of ~240 [this is on the slower computer which has the cpu usage set at 50%]. This was over a 14 day period so the figures should be fairly accurate, although she...

Re: Answers to: Reasons for not using F@H.
Thats not an acceptable option for something which I need to run in the background with no user interaction. To be honest, I'm not too keen on the small work units either... but if it looks like it's going to overtake the bandwith limits then i'll definately head down that path... At this stage I wa...

In the northern half of Australia, we average 8 peak sun hours per day during the summer and 4 during winter, I'd imagine that your peak sun hours are pretty darned low in holland? Re: PS3 Uses 5x more Electricity than Fridge [Not true]
We seem to be chasing our tails here. Ah the beauty of the internet.... where are we? Assuming regulation/oversight of the current system is LEGITIMATE, purchasing "greenpower" from your energy supplier should result in an increased proportion of OVERALL energy in the grid being sourced fr...

Re: PS3 Uses 5x more Electricity than Fridge [Not true]
I'd like to believe that's true, but how can you know Because it's government audited here in Australia so yes, they have to purchase extra "greenpower" when you request it. Of course conspiracy theories are fun and creative accounting abounds in the real world.... but you have to rely in...

Re: Comparting performance between folding clients
Well Jaak, if I understand what is being said, the argument is that flops dont represent the "science" as clearly as points per day does I think? Surely though you could easily give an x86 factor instead of points per day [figure out total flops produced by one client type, divide this by ...
