The permission issues on Windows should be fixed in the latest alpha release of the client : https://foldingathome.org/alpha/

cores2.foldingathome.org won't let you access anything unless you know the full link to the file.

Please update your client to the latest. v8.1.x is old, filled with bugs and no longer supported.
