Re: Best bang for the buck build?
The one way to know for sure is to test changes to your system and see. I was going to do this, but didn't want to cook my system if evidence already existed. But turns out I can't overclock my Xeon CPU. Testing of my hypothesis of dependency of GPU use on CPU will have to wait until the nex...

Re: Best bang for the buck build?
I've just noticed my CPUs are at their maximum usage(100%). I'm running 3 x RTX GPUs (around 60% of their clock-speed) which translates to 3 CPUs at full throttle. Wondering if overclocking these CPUs would get me significantly more PPD? Any experience with doing this is much appreciated. PS: Thanks...

RTXs sourcing: bulk & cheaper
I'm located in Australia, anyone up for joining orders for number of NVIDIA cards at hopefully a significant discount? Am thinking of ordering from Alibaba.com where prices are much much cheaper. Testing this site & seller if my relatively low value order (~$AU500) has any issues, will let you k...

Re: Scientific magazines. Publications.
I've had some moments that I've had to interrupt lately for health reasons and because the current is too high to pay but now it's lowered again. They never want to, I don't know why. Thanks Franco for bringing up this engagement issue. I've read wider empirical studies that suggest, like you (I as...

Yep, it's the same setup in Australia.Peter_Hucker wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 4:34 am Solar connected to the grid is a ripoff, they pay you a fraction of the value when you give it to them than when you get it back.

Re: Many GPUs on one machine
Great! What's your power draw from your current system, and are you happy to continue providing this amount?Peter_Hucker wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 4:34 am If any cards come my way I'd be happy to provide the power for them.

Re: Many GPUs on one machine
Peter, you could act as a energy provider to cut ongoing costs. If people buy more efficient cards than yours and send them to you, you could setup a better performing system, no?

Re: Many GPUs on one machine
Totally. I'm renting so can't justify the capital investment in solar as we're likely to move before our payback period starts.

Re: Many GPUs on one machine
Yeah, cool. Hopefully AMD do a NVIDIA and boost their GPU performance significantly via bettering the framework (CUDA, for NVIDIA) they use.

Re: Many GPUs on one machine
How many GPUs are you running? Core count total, etc? Are you running a Data Centre or is my estimate off?Peter_Hucker wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 3:51 am That's cheap electricity. If I bought it from the grid I'd be paying about £20,000 a year.

Re: Many GPUs on one machine
Want setup, build and parts would you recommend? thanks I'm running 4 x NVIDIA 3060 Ti's on a mining rig (open-airflow) 'case' hooked into a HP z420 motherboard. I saw no significant drop in performance with using all PCIE slots (down to x4), via adapters (i.e. risers). Underclocked the GPUs to all...

Re: Many GPUs on one machine
12 year old GPUs can be very cheap. Sure, upfront. But the electricity costs are relatively big compared to newer cards. The efficiency gains on power usage over the last ~10 years are significant (approx. 10 x core count for same power draw). Also, NVIDIA RTX 4 series have better folding performan...

Re: Many GPUs on one machine
Maybe they realised that fancy new (i.e. insignificant) 'features' sells cards?Maybe they decided the heatsink was feeding heat to the RAM from the GPU?

Re: Many GPUs on one machine
My GPUs aren't even inside the cases, I use mining risers on USB cables. Similar as my current setup! But I'm looking at custom-designing a wooden case with metal plaque with some textual info. about F@h written on it - geared towards marketing/awareness of the whole folding endeavour. Q: Do you th...

Re: Many GPUs on one machine
The motherboard and the SSD are now broken. Dam, luckily I haven't had any such issues. I'm trying to prototype a new configuration, your comments makes me think it needs to be almost production-quality at the same time (e.g. pre-designed and properly mounted to avoid human-induced errors). Annoyin...
