Re: Run two tasks per GPU?
It's over double the speed of the 1050: 1.862 TFlops: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-gtx-1050.c2875 4.096 TFlops: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-r9-280x.c2398 I buy old stuff as it's a lot cheaper. Way more computations per dollar. The price of new cards is beyond a joke...

Re: Run two tasks per GPU?
The N3700 doesn't have that many lanes. It only has 4, I believe one is for SATA, one for network, 1 for USB, something like that. Only 1 is present at the only PCI Express slot. You don't need anything like v3 x4. I've got two 280X cards running maxed out on folding right now, sharing a v2 x1 slot ...

Re: Run two tasks per GPU?
Now it's not so slow anymore. Depends which cards are plugged in. One of them is being flaky and even dozes off completely. Maybe it was hogging the PCI-E lane trying to work? Or the Folding app was repeatedly sending it data to retry?

Re: Run two tasks per GPU?
Update - I was right in the first place. Two 280X cards CAN run shared on a single PCI-E v2 x1 lane, both going at full speed on Folding. The other CPU must have been too slow, which is odd as the usage was a fraction of a core to help each card. Maybe the delay for each bit of the CPU part of the w...

Re: Run two tasks per GPU?
I thought of that, but Boinc tends to take more than its fair share. There is no way to throttle Boinc's GPU usage that I know of apart from by temperature. Ignore this part, see next post: It may be a PCI-E lane limitation, not CPU, as the slowed cards are sharing a PCI-E v2 x1 lane. I'm going to t...

Run two tasks per GPU?
In Boinc, if I have a GPU not maxed out (because the CPU isn't powerful enough for example), I can run 2 tasks on the GPU at once, then each task is using a different CPU core to help out. Not only does that give me twice the cores to help the GPU, but it means while one task is stalled waiting for ...

FAH Icon disappearing
The systray icon is often not there on my Windows 11 machine. It's there when I start up the folding client, or if I kill the task in task manager then restart it, but after a while it's gone. I've found this bug from 2013! Please tell me it got fixed and this is a "fresh bug"? https://for...

Thanks, an excellent description. I've learned something new about how this science works.

Re: Lack of cancer work units?
I found them, they seem to be on CPUs just now, perhaps the research has changed so it's not GPU compatible. At the time I didn't have the CPUs on folding so I saw no cancer. I am now getting Alzheimers on GPU and cancer on CPU. No matter what I choose for my preference I get the same mix of project...

Description of run/clone/gen?
I can't find any FAQ on what run/clone/gen mean in a task. Only this expired link: http://fahwiki.net/index.php/Runs%2C_Clones_and_Gens

Re: Lack of cancer work units?
Everything done here is useful, and it runs on almost every processor and graphics card I have. Quite rare to see biology on an AMD GPU. Everyone is obsessed with the overpriced Nvidia.
It would be nice if that virus could kill off all of them. About time medicine became a real science!

Re: Lack of cancer work units?
Yes I'm seeing varied and interesting stuff, I was just wondering if the lack of cancer units meant they'd found something. I did make another post about an artificial virus they could inject which is in the human trial phase.

Lack of cancer work units?
I usually get about half cancer, half alzheimers, with a smattering of the others, but recently there's no cancer. Does this mean something? I have my settings on "any disease".

Re: Please REMOVE RX560
I was always the one who did the buying. I selected something sensible, then asked the user if they wanted anything different, then bent the rules to buy the more expensive one they wanted. A kettle is a water heater. A gaming card is a maths coprocessor.
