Thanks!
It looks like I had that command wrong by not having 2 sets of dashes. (Why 2?)

Re: change to not run as service
The service install does work, but I'd like to have the computer's resources for other things from time to time and would like to be able to let it complete a unit and stop before I intend to use it for other things. I would like to start it manually each time as well, so that it won't start and dow...

change to not run as service
Hello, I made the mistake of setting folding at home to run as a service during installation. I would just let it finish a work unit completely, then re-install with the correct setting, but the following command isn't working: tom@quartet:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/FAHClient start -- finish Starting fahcl...

Re: Folding on Opteron 4284 "Valencia"
If you won't be doing anything else with it, booting into Runlevel 3 may help.
Edit: Apparently Ubuntu 11.04 doesn't have that option.

Re: New Folder - Maximize Costs/Performance
I'd recommend minimizing the cost/performance ratio. ;-) Do you know how much power they're drawing already? If they have raid cards and arrays still inside, you could remove them to reduce the power consumption. If you're running folding alone, you could use just 1 or even 0 hard drives as well as ...

Re: What CPU is better? Intel or AMD?
That's a classic apples vs. oranges question. Another thing to consider is the type of games you'll be playing. Many newer games take advantage of multiple cores while others do not. I've been quite happy with the performance and low power consumption of the Opteron processors. The 4100 series has o...

Re: HFM default web settings
OK. I'd just assumed it would use the values in the log file.
Thanks.
Thanks.

HFM default web settings
Under Preferences, Web Settings, HFM indicates default values for User ID and Team. What's the purpose of this?

Re: How do you fold?
It runs here on everything that isn't a laptop. I sometimes boot my primary PC into Windows when I'm leaving for the day or going to sleep and fold on the GPU (GT220 or something like that). It draws about 100 watts, so I don't mind. I have a headless dual CPU machine for ray-tracing and programming...

dual boot - linux + windows
I regularly use Linux and fold on it. I use Windows when I don't have to do anything productive. All documents, regardless of which OS, are on a file server. I haven't folded on Windows in months because it's not often used, but would it be possible for it to run the work in the same folder that I f...

Re: cpu stats
Close. I don't have a specific project to look a though.
It was just a long table - pages long. It could be sorted by the headings of the table, one of which was the CPU type.

cpu stats
I once came across a stats page that could list work units by CPU type. I have not been able to find it again. Is it still around?
Thanks,
